It's using Adsmart which allows for targeted advertising by downloading and inserting commercials from your Sky box.

Re: Andy Marriott's Television Show

It seems that the Andy Marriott Teklevision Show gets another outing, starting at 6pm today, on another sister station Solid Gold GEM.

EDIT: I think these may be repeats of the Serenade programmes. Some of the links sounds familiar.

It may have only come on air today but it's been on the schedule on their website for a while, it's been mentioned on air during the test transmissions and on their Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Some of the team behind Serenade are also behind Boom programming wise. I suspect the break on Serenade is to allow time to get Boom up and running.

Re: Andy Marriott's Television Show

You may not have to wait too long to hear Andy's Television Show again. According to the provisional schedule, the programme will be returning on Boom Radio, which launches on February 14th online and on DAB in some parts of the country, this time at 5pm on Sundays. Obviously, that may change betwee...

Re: Andy Marriott's Television Show

Gosh, has it been going that long? What station was it on? Serenade Radio only started in 2015. He originally started the programme on Radio Trent, moving to GEM AM and I think it continued on at least one of the East Midlands regionals. It's taken different forms over the years. I have a couple on...

Re: Andy Marriott's Television Show

Yes, he did get that one wrong. Having been listening to Andy's Television Show since the 1980s I'm fairly sure he will know that so I suspect he recorded the links separately and maybe the track was mislabelled in the system.

Re: The box that says “the adverts are coming”

They're called cue dots, rather like those you see in old films to indicate to the projectionist when to change rolls. In tv, they were used to indicate to each of the ITV regions when to standby and run commercial breaks. They were also used to provide cues in and out of live programmes and OBs (th...

David, Did you ever manage to track this piece down? Hi Nigel, Sorry for taking so long. I've not found it yet, I'm afraid. It's not on any of the cassettes I've already transferred and I've been having problems with my PC which has delayed transferring the rest. I'm determined to find it though! D...

Although I can't answer your question, I'm fairly sure that I have a recording of it from the early 80s. I'm away from home at the moment but when I get back I'll see if I can find it and post it somewhere.

From the 1977 BBC Handbook: "In Scotland, the Geneva frequency plan should lead to an improvement in the low-frequency (long -wave) service. The present 200 kHz (400 kW) transmitter at Droitwich does not adequately serve Scotland but, under the new plan, additional 200 kHz (50 kW) and 227 kHz (50 kW...

Re: The Network That Never Was

I know there has been a policy at some points in the past for the north-east to be protected from certain regional and local cuts to help strengthen the BBC's position in the area, as evidently it's a part of the country where the Corporation has traditionally been less popular. I believe the old N...

The regional 5 minute news bulletins finished on Friday 12 September 1980, the day after Radio Norfolk launched. I have a vague recollection of reading something along those lines too, but can't remember where. A couple of possible sources are Edward Pawley's History of BBC Engineering or On Air - The History of BBC Transmission. I'll have a look over the weekend although the latter is available as a free down...

I can't speak for news, but in playout it's normal practice for server clips have 5 second handles so that the VT clock is still present as an ident. While the scheduled clip will have an in point of 10:00:00:00 that is 5 seconds into the clip and sometimes the director will change the in point to 0...
