Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

I'm pretty sure that the image is just a wind up to draw viewers in and as usual, the image will be something totally different than we think with the story falling flat.

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

Moffat likes to rewrite the entirety of Who lore in his own image just as Rick Berman did with the Star Trek franchise.

It looks like with the new series it will be a trio including The Doctor. Do we really need that bald guy for comic relief??

After seeing the color "Power" I wish they would do color animations of all of the missing stories.

Since the original no longer exists it's probably the closest we will ever get to the original serial.

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

I just picked up the Power of The Daleks blu ray and I will say something that is probably sacrilege to Classic Who purists. I absoulutely loved the colorized version. Normally I had altering the original material to color as I'm a purist but to me, the animated black and white version was missing s...

Too bad if it wasn't adapted, it would have been a cool addition to any number of anthology series out there.

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

The show has been spread out with so much of a gap between series that I find myself not caring by the time either a Christmas Special or a new series airs.

I would have liked the Beeb to make another series of Star Cops.....ok now I'm going to run for cover. You don't have to do that, there are plenty who would agree with you, including me! No series of "K9 And Company" still annoys me to this day. ...And although it wasn't a hit, I thought it was a h...

Re: Power of the Daleks

The whole thing is splendid, once you have become accustomed to the limitations of the movement. At one point, Who's trousers stand still while the rest of him moves around them. A little disturbing at first. The Daleks are beautifully done; menacing just by appearance. Bernard Archard is similarly...

Re: Power of the Daleks

That's one of the things that always attracted me to Classic Who. Yes, the sets were cheap, the sfx was even cheaper but they both had a certain charm and the stories were not based on flashy sfx but substance. The show would not have survived 27 years if the writing was not up to par. Granted, not ...

There were only 30 or 40 of us in the cinema, not the packed crowd that I was expecting. Probably partly because they chose the worst possible day, Monday, a work and school day.

Re: Power of the Daleks

I saw it in the cinema last night as well, and agree that the "performances" were a little wooden. Also the big screen amplifies the odd flaws - like one character's name tag floating off for a moment. I also swear that Ben and Polly were wearing their Vulcan colony outfits just before it's suggest...

Re: Power of the Daleks

The animation of The Daleks was good but the animation of the characters, especially during the slow talky sequences, of which there was a lot, was so un-moving and stilted that I fell alseep twice during the theatrical showing. They also showed it in omnibus form which made for it to feel extra lon...

Re: Robert Vaughn 1932-2016

It's still completely bizarre to me that, him having been a world star in the 60s and hob-nobbing with the Kennedys, Steve McQueen etc, he eventually did Coronation Street. Nothing wrong with that, quite charming, but still bizarre. Vaughn was quite the Anglophile and very much preferred Great Brit...
