Re: Things I can't find on the internet

Tantalisingly, this music hall CD features a track called, 'A Spot Of Income Tax Bother' (which was originally released as a 78) but (a) there's no indication whether it's a song or a monologue and (b) I've not found a copy of that track online to listen to yet. https://www.musichallcds.co.uk/var37_...

Re: Things I can't find on the internet

I asked around and haven't identified the song (yet) but got these suggestions. ##################################################################### It does indeed sound like a Music Hall song. A place to start might be to discover when Schedule A income tax rate was 4s 9d in the pound. ###########...

Re: BBC Red Button Text Service

Very annoyed at this.

The text based service is far easier and quicker to navigate.

There have been numerous letters in Radio Times over the last few weeks - some from people in rural communities without a decent internet connection or people that aren't so tech savvy and rely on it for information.

An interesting episode today, "Connie & Clyde", reuniting Wendy Craig and Bruce Montague nearly 40 years after Butterflies . https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/10/08/doctors.md.jpg Thanks for the tip off. I don't usually watch Doctors but it was quite touching to see those two acting together again...

Re: Old Granada Continuity

Just a quick question around 1980 Granada showed a season of horror films under the banner "House of horrors" late on Friday nights. I'm sure they had a spooky type intro card before the films a bit like the "Appointment with Fear" intro. You see old continuity on Youtube or Tvark but not seen any ...

Re: Need to identify a short story about a stranded astronau

No idea if it's the one but, there was an Sci-Fi anthology called "The Twenty Second Century", published in 54, so it could well have been knocking about in School Libraries in 76, and there was a story in it called "Museum Piece". The book's author was John Christopher, of "The Tripods" fame, whic...

Re: BBC Music Jazz

Many thanks for the heads-up. I completely missed this last time and looking at this year's schedule, I've already pencilled in a few programmes of interest (Jazz At The Movies, Neil & Dud - The Other Side Of Dudley Moore, Ian Rankin: My Favourite Jazz Moment, Miles Plugs In, In Conversation With Ke...

Re: BBC Archive for sale

Is anyone else having difficulty downloading under Windows 10 ? I initially installed the desktop downloader prog but this refuses to do anything apart from tell me to go to the Windows store and download the Win 10 app version instead. I dutifully did this, hit the download button (which seemed to ...

Would Dennis Potter have accepted a CBE / OBE ?

Firstly, I'm not a Daily Mail reader but I spotted this during a review of the papers on one of the breakfast TV shows. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3277556/Did-No-10-block-damehood-Cilla-backed-Maggie-Blair-government-turned-star-honour-2005-support-Conservatives.html Another interesting...

Network - video on demand ?

I recently bought, 'Tempo' in the Network sale and received an email stating that I now have, 'video access' to this, which sounds to me like video on demand. Clicking on the link just takes me to the page to buy it again but it also shows, 'Access duration:21 days:1 video in product' but without an...

Re: Some old comedy documentaries on BBC iPlayer

Theres some very good stuff available but it all refuses to run full-screen on my Windows 8 PC. Clicking on the full-screen icon causes the picture to bounce but doesn't enlarge the frame. Anyone else facing similar problems? Lowering the screen resolution on my PC monitor worked for me. However, W...

Re: Network DVD's in Poundland

Poundland (Lancaster) has most of the titles mentioned above.

Eventually found them after walking round a few times, in a stand of their own near the front of the store labelled, 'Classic Comedy DVDs' (or similar) so I picked up Six Dates With Barker and The Goodies At LWT.

Mine arrived a week or so ago.

Whilst I've not had chance to delve properly yet, it does look very good.

I recently paraphrased some lines from the last interview with Melvyn Bragg in a speech I gave at my Mum's funeral (re nowness and being in the present tense).

Anyone got access to INFAX ? I'm trying to pin down some fine detail regarding an interview with Bob Weir (of the Grateful Dead). Slightly off-topic but can anyone recommend a factual primer-type book (ie, not completely incomprehensible) regarding this period, pagan UK / Albion etc ?

Thanks.

The Burkiss Way vs The Two Ronnies

A quick heads-up. This episode of The Burkiss Way; http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007jrtv features a version of the, 'Mastermind - Answering The Question Before Last' sketch. A hasty bit of inadequate research (ie, a quick google or two) brings forth David Renwick as the writer of the Two Ronnies ...
