Re: Dick Turpin

Network were usually pretty good with sleeve information regarding transmission dates etc. and I am sure they did get around to releasing all of the series at some point. ...all the right episodes, but not necessarily in the right order IIRC. Re: US TV shows that had different titles in UK

ITV screened GUNSMOKE as GUN LAW, although selected episodes of the original radio series aired on the BBC Light Programme under the original title.

As did short BBC television runs in 1972 and 1993.

For example...

Unless it’s one of the “new” episodes that Talking Pictures has unearthed, then it’s still AWOL. Annoyingly, like Hartnell’s appearance in SOFTLY, SOFTLY, the episode immediately before it does survive. However... Re: ATV archive donated to the bfi

The first episode of REEDER was an ABC production, but was held by Thames (at the very least on a Philips viewing tape - which is where Kaleidoscope obtained a copy from). By the time the dvd release came round Kal’s copy seems to be the only one in existence. So probably Fremantle just doesn’t have...

Re: ATV archive donated to the bfi

Aren’t these “new” discoveries actually the result of some proper cataloguing of tapes that were acquired back in the 70s and 80s?

Rather like when ITV bought the ATV archive and began a proper investigation of what was held and where, which threw up a fair few programmes thought lost.

The absence of DAD’S ARMY sequence from the 1975 Royal Variety Performance from the dvds is more down to that year’s show being an ITV production.

Re: This Is Music Hall (BBC 1955)

What could be possible, (and as seen last night, is done on a very limited basis), is to repeat programmes linked to Grace Dent’s occasional series WHAT WE WATCHED. BBC4’s evening schedule given over to full programmes from whatever theme her programme is focused on - the (very good) song and dance ...

Repeating a circus show that involves animals maybe problematic, I’ll take a guess that the panto will contain a fair bit of non PC material though the CHRISTMAS NIGHT was recently repeated, (but with an edit), the Morecambe and Wise is a non-Braben edition and isn’t amongst their best, billed as th...

Re: live drama: edited after transmission or not?

The entire 1956 season of Billy Bunter is telerecorded too - I couldn't guess why. For repeats - as Simon’s listing up thread shows, the number of productions performed twice in the same week dropped dramatically after 1954. Now, without going looking, that’s either because same-week repeats weren’...

Re: live drama: edited after transmission or not?

Can't say I can think of any examples, it would be very expensive to go to that trouble, many film recordings of recorded as live programmes have mistakes on view. Retakes of major cock-ups would be done immediately after the live transmission, while whatever recording apparatus would still be runn...

It certainly happened for episodes of the QUATERMASS serials, as detailed in Andrew Pixley’s notes for the dvd set.

And “new” versions of scenes replaced muffed ones for sales copies of Z CARS too - see David Brunt’s excellent volumes on that series.

Is there more than one 'It's a Square World' left? I've only seen it offered as a bootleg, and even then it's the same episode every time. There are loads - eleven missing episodes, mostly from the first two series but apart from that. With a mainly core cast to deal with, (or their estates!), I wa...

Re: Timeslip telerecordings-(Audio question)

As can be seen on the dvd release, episode six of THE JENSEN CODE is only “badly damaged” in that it cuts off before its end - it's missing two lines of dialogue and the end credits, (about 1'15" worth). Although there’s some slight clicking on the soundtrack too.
