Top of the Pops "recording over old film" article in the Daily Mail

The BBC used to have a policy of recording over old film to save money which resulted in most of the 1976 episodes of the show being wiped. Folks are having a field day in the comments section https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8659337/Lost-video-tapes-Pops-come-light-50-years-binned-BBC.html

Re: Is it all over....?

While the proliferation of streaming services has slowed DVD releases down I think as more services appear and fragment the market DVD/BlueRay will start to make a comeback as people decide they can't subscribe to all of them and they want guaranteed access to their favourites. The lack of "archive"...

Re: Members past and present

My impression is that folks seemed to drift away after a forum upgrade a few years ago, but I know from my own websites that traffic to real person run pages has dwindled significantly over the last 5-6 years; the big social sites like Facebook plus Wikipedia suck up content and eyeballs and for mos...

Smiley's Peope - will it ever get a decent transfer

The lack of an internet connection a few evenings ago prompted a dive into the DVD collection and we spun this series up. Most enjoyable but it does looks dreadful for most episodes, muted colours and blurry on our large but not exactly gigantic screen spoiling the hard work cinematographer Kenneth ...

Not sure if this NZ series made its way to the UK, but seeing as it's the only Kiwi series I can recall that has had restoration treatment worth calling that I thought it might be of interest to folks here. That's the one. It was taken offline as the site editor got feed up putting in all the effort to collate and host the site just for content to be poached by other sites and blogs. You can still access a lot of it in the internet archive/way back machine

Re: Network's 'Forgotten TV Drama' range

Excellent idea, plenty to choose from. There was a three play series in 1970, called "Grady", a spin-off from "The Main Chance", with Anthony Bate playing the title character, would be nice to see those. How about including that in an Edmund Ward box set: The Casualties (1962) Drama 62: Recuriting ...
