Re: Falcon Crest
Yes. Basically networked on Thursdays 8pm/8.30 for 1982/83. Thames & TVS opted out in 84. Then was regularly shown 1.30 Thursdays in most regions till the end. TSW put the first series on Saturday nights at 5.45 of course!

Re: Name That Tune - original format
I've just found an edition from 1983, so was London Night Out. The rounds were.. Spin A wheel, Golden Oldies, Bid a Note and Melody Roulette.
Golden Oldies was just 5 questions based on the discs behind Tom O'Connor.

Re: Name That Tune - original format
The rounds I remember on London Night Out were a Beat The Clock type round with words which had to be made into a song title. Then Bid a Note and finishing with the Golden Medley for the £1000

It certainly wasn't networked. Made by the exactly same team as Chain Letters which had 26-ep network run that year.

West and Scales did a series on canals for HTV c1990. CH4 showed it 1996 ish. Was this a new episode or a rehash of this series?

I used to get confused when Alun Armstrong and Richard Wilson played different characters every week. Why is the guy from the post office now working down the tax office? Surely a rarity in sitcoms. Unfortunately by Series 4 it became another Stuart Allen / Vince Powell sitcom, but I still enjoyed i...

The schools programmes that were shown on CH4 due to the 1987 Election on ITV had the English schedule from 0930-1200 then the opt outs followed at 1200

I have a clip of Philip Elsmore voicing " Coming up on ITV, Thames News" on CH4 from c1987. I assume this was part of the commercial break!

Re: The pre-"World in Action" slot
John Fairley and John Birt / Greg Dyke arranged this IIRC. Think it was in one of Dyke's books. Central & Granada only offered their weaker stuff for the weekend saving the "better ones" for the safer weekday slots. Out of those Eric Chappell sitcoms, only Duty Free played during the week. The rest ...

Always wondered which village got all three regions. Its got to be near templecombe or sherbourne.
TSW did A Nip In The Air in 1985 centred on Blandford Forum. TVS only screened it in About Britain, surely that was in TVS country

You're right. But there comes a time when one has to think of ratings and nearly all ITV regions were showing SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN from January? Even the rest of the Big Five would have mooted moving THIS WEEK back to 2130. BTW back to PC again, not on my tablet! Which year was the FRANKIE HOWERD ...

Re: Thames programme at a weekend
I'll try to get the listings but I suspect that your correct. 2030 bless this house, 2100 clayhanger. It also may be one of those regional listings that aren't 100%. My point was that 90 mins of documentary isn't going to play well against top of the pops etc. Also when this week was brought back it...

Re: Thames programme at a weekend
Found a surprising one in an old TVTimes from May 1976. Thames original schedule for Thursdays was... 1900 THE WORLD AT WAR, 2000 THIS WEEK, 2030 CLAYHANGER. Whilst worthy I can't see this being too popular. The rest of ITV was showing THE WORLD AT WAR on Sunday afternoons. IN May LWT picked up THE ...

Re: Country Ways - Portland in June (TVS 1984?)
You'll probably find that Granada and YTV screened ABOUT BRITAIN at 0930 that week with the cricket starting at 1000.
Was certainly the case with the TSW week two weeks later when they all played at 0930. This begs the question, how long is a cricket match?

WTPS was shown as part of Granadas 24 hr strand in 1988/89 at some unearthly hour and not networked. So its little wonder it was missed. Thames and TVS took it.
BFI suggests it went back to ITV on 22/09/1988
