Backing up DVDs to Hard Drive
A majority of my DVD collection comprises VT programmes. If these DVDs are backed up/ transferred to an external hard drive, would they retain their VT look when played back from the hard drive on a TV set, or would they have a filmised look? Or does it depend on the transfer format? Any advice welc...

TOTP 1981
Interesting that BBC4 are now showing two new shows each week (i.e. 4 including repeats). If they carry on they'll reach the end of 1981 by early May (given there are about 33 shows to broadcast). I don't mind at all, given the question marks in the background about BBC4's future - lets get as many ...

Re: Paul Temple (German) DVD
I know it wouldn't quite be the same, but I wonder if anyone's thought of dubbing them back into English using new actors ? They should at least be able to get the lip synching right.

Re: Nicholas Smith (1934-2015)
Very sad. About 7 years ago he was a guest at a TV convention in Birmingham that I attended as paying public. We got chatting and I asked him how far was his journey home - to be told he lived about 100 miles away, but, it transpired, also within a five minute walk of my house! After that and until ...

Mike Allen (1942-2015)
Not greatly known outside London, but listeners to LBC and Capital Radio in the 80s and 90s will remember Mike, whose presenting repertoire spanned from a Hip Hop show on Capital to main late night weekend presenter on LBC until 1994. Had a great voice. http://radiotoday.co.uk/2015/12/tributes-paid-...

Re: Star Cops
It didn't really grab me on original viewing but perhaps I'l give it another go. Won't however be paying the extortionate prices being asked for the DVD online - the good quality episodes on Youtube look a cheaper bet.

Re: PR: New Scotland Yard: The Complete Fourth Series [Netwo
Welcome (and these days surprising) news from Network. I've always wondered why they recast this and for such a short run. I can only assume the previously leads decided to walk - unlikely they were pushed after 3 relatively successful series.

Before I click "Buy", just wondering if anyone has bought Warship Series 2 yet and was it in the correct format? There are no grumbles in the Amazon reviews but they are not always reliable.

BBC Archive for sale
Looks interesting, but I wonder how obscure it will go and whether, for example, game shows will be included.

Re: Tell me Another
Can anyone confirm whether these shows are now being shown in a loop or are they still broadcasting "new" editions? Its just a friend is recording them for me (I cant get Sky) and as he lives about 50 miles away I haven't been able to check. If they are in a loop, can anyone say how many editions we...

I'm recording the non-commercially available stuff like Park Ranger and Operation Patch (despite the indifferent picture quality). I broused the Southern catalogue on the Renown website and there looks to be at least half a dozen more possibilities for future showing of un-published series in the dr...

Re: Top of the Pops 1980
So this week they allow a clip of Jonathan King nattering to Simon Bates. Not complaining of course (more shows the better), but another example of BBC inconsistency, particularly on the DLT issue. Unless of course no one clocked it on preview.

That LWT look
I don't know whether its just me, but when watching archive LWT VTR programmes, the picture exhibits a slightly pink, milky hew that seems to be unique to this particular broadcaster. it is particularly noticeable on game and chat shows but is also present for sitcoms and drama. In contrast BBC and ...

Re: The Adventurer
Well I decided to buy it so we'll see - 26 episodes for £8 is worth a punt. Worth noting that Monty Berman was 68 when filming finished, so I guess its possible he didn't want to do any more and just take it easy That could have been a wise move, seeing as he made it to 101.

The Adventurer
As someone said in another thread, there is little left to tempt me in the Network sale given the fall off in recent releases, but I am toying with the Adventurer. Web reviews of this ITC series are poor or at best indifferent - does anyone have anything good to say about it?

The answer is on Youtube if you look closely. The original transmission dates are shown for each show and the late 70s programes range from 1977 - 79, dates that take in series 6 and 7. A welcome development but curious choice to put up so many pre-Geoffrey episodes when for 95% of viewers his era I...

Josette Simon (Blake's 7)also has a reasonably solid earlier claim in the drama genre, but whatever, this is a welcome release.

Re: Big Centre TV, 'Classic' Crossroads and other
I'd like to try and record the Big Centre's streaming of Crossroads when the episodes reach the point (June 1979) where Network stopped issuing them, which I reckon will be spring next year. Does anyone have any recommendations on good software that will do this?

When I'm Gone...
While I have no plans for shuffling off this mortal coil for a decade or two (or hopefully 3 or 4), I am thinking about my will, which in turn got me thinking about what should become of my sizable "off air" VHS and DVD archive (dating from 1985), when I'm gone. Of course perhaps 80 - 90% of what I ...

Re: Simply depressing
I have a theory that the people doing the transfers for Simply are twenty somethings who have never seen a 70s/ 80s BBC studio/film insert drama, having been brought up on the faux (or real) film look of pretty much all TV dramas of the last 15 years. So with nothing to compare it against, to them t...

So I take delivery of the newly released Aphrodite Inheritance with trepidation, hoping against hope that Simply HE will have sorted out their authoring shortcomings (see Angels, Softly Softly etc). Today's BBC News
Has anyone noticed the appalling quality of the clip of Richard Branson's recent interview on the One Show, being shown on today's BBC News as part of the story on Virgin Galaxy's break-up? At best it looks EP quality and possibly a grade worse than that. Does this indicate that the BBC does not arc...
