I think that's why they cast Nicholas Lyndhurst because the writers thought the audience would accept him in this role because of his nice guy image!

Re: Crown Court (Episode Transmission Dates)
Don't know if you have the Network dvd releases but according to the sleeve notes of volume 6 The Traffic Wardens Daughter was due to be shown on those dates but was replaced by The Getaway and subsequently wasn't transmitted. Possibly due to the episode content!

Yes a very good show. These type of shows are very few these days.
Another good one although not Sci-Fi is Hetty Feather set in The Foundling Hospital which took in unwanted children.

Only just seen this!! Sad news!!
Remember seeing him on a couple of documentaries about Sid James and telling stories of how Sid would ask him to go and put bets on for him!

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs
Well i never got around to buying the legacy boxset as i understood the version of Shada was exactly the same as the old VHS release. So i'm looking forward to this!! Isn't it true to say that a lot of fans just buy the dvd's for the extra's anyway having seen some of the stories numerous times! I k...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread
I think that the casting of Jodie Whittaker is a good thing!! Although i don't think that there has been a massive decline in ratings. I think it's partly due to the decline in tv viewing across the board and not just Doctor Who and also the fact that it's now a 12 year old show and so less and less...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread
Ratings wise this series the show is more often than not the top rating show on BBC 1 for that particular day once the final ratings are published. Also usually in the top ten for BBC shows for the week and also usually in the top thirty of all shows for the week. Given that in the most recent ratin...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread
The problem is far more than just whether here are single episode stories, or a few feature-length episodes. The problem is that Doctor Who the television show as it is now is pretty poor. Poor writing, poor execution. It's stale, it's embarrassing, it doesn't have a clue which way it is going. It ...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread
Well, the ratings are falling(and yes that includes the trumped-up ones as well..), and Doctor Who no longer has that "cool"(or whatever the modern kids' slang is) factor it had just a short while ago. The current path is one that is clearly heading downhill, and not just for older fans. Which is w...

Re: Folk horror & generally odd drama for kids nowadays?
There was a show earlier this year called Eve. Which was kind of like A for Andromeda for kids in that it involved a humanoid robot named Eve. I tend to find these days that the kids shows always go for comedy over drama which meant you got episodes where Eve learns to play football and goes to scho...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread
Not sure the ratings really matter that much there just seems to be a trend where less and less people are watching tv as it is broadcast. Doc Martin which is one of itv's big hitters was 2 million down on it's 1st episode compared to it's 1st episode in 2013. The audiences for Christmas Day last ye...

Nearly finished series 3 and i think there's only been 1 episode that i haven't enjoyed so far with only the last episode to go. Anthony Valentine was a great addition to the cast with some great guest stars as well. William Russell and Gareth Thomas to name just 2. A bit of a shame it didn't contin...

Re: Network series at Poundland.
I picked up Dawson's Weekly from Edinburgh Woolen Mill some time ago along with Keep it in the Family series one.
I'm afraid i only managed 3 episodes of Dawson's Weekly before it went on the dispose of pile.
Really enjoyed Keep it in the Family but that didn't stay in the collection either.

I hate "why this and not that" posts, but honestly.... A sitcom so dire it was curtailed during its first and only series? Network have Soldier and Me, Intruder, Quest of Eagles, and more Whicker and World in Action sitting on the shelves, yet they choose this and Faith in the Future? Genuine quest...

Well of all the titles Network could release i wasn't expecting this.
Will buy anyway purely because of the late great Adam Faith. It was originally shown not long before he died. Seem to remember it was only 5 episodes.

I don't have the figures to hand but I suspect ratings were high in 2009 because it was a gap year with only the specials. From DWM the last seasons ratings appear to be remarkably consistent Basically reading your posts it seems you have a classic old school proprietorial attitude towards the show...

I was originally very excited when I heard that Peter Capaldi would be the Twelfth Doctor. I can also remember very well that Moffat said that Series 8 would be darker and "more difficult". I thought series 8 was one of the most consistent in the new era's 10 year history. In that they were not all great stories but they were all good stories. The weakest in my opinion being Time Heist.

Well i enjoyed Last Christmas! Not too sure about Moffats take on Santa but overall i thought it was one of the better Christmas Episodes. It's only your opinion that the show needs fixing but you present it as a fact! Did I say that, absolutely not, that is your interpretation of what I said. But for your edification I will clarify, It is MY OPINION that much of the rebooted series needs fixing but is still watchable. The classic ser...
