Re: SF/Fantasy/Cult/General TV Podcast Recommendations

Another vote for Round The Archives here! I really enjoy how Lisa and Andrew can make comic riffs out of dull production facts... no, they really can. Some other recommendations: The Hammer House Of Podcast Retrospecticus - The Simpsons And Modern History Together At Last Don't Point That Horror At ...

There is actually another one - and it was a sort-of spin-off from Broomhouse Reach...!

Broomhouse Reach is indeed in there, but it wasn't the first Radio 3 sitcom, nor was it the only one...!

The Larks Ascending - A Guide To Comedy On BBC Radio 3

Hello! You might well be interested in my new book The Larks Ascending - a sequel to my earlier book on comedy on Radio 1, in which I take a look at the surprising amount of comedy on Radio 3. Shows covered include The Half-Open University, Patterson, Why Bother?, A Tribute To Greatness, The Atkinso...

How Do You Do! (BBC, 1977)

Hello! You might enjoy this updated story about how I stumbled across domestic recordings of some long-wiped episodes of the late seventies BBC children's series How Do You Do!. Alternately, you may miss the point and call me names, but variety is the spice of life and all that... https://timworthin...

Hello! I'm currently offering an entirely free eBook featuring highlights from my self-published books, and a couple of extra bits. Re: Let's Go Round Again - The Story Of The Magic Roundabout

[T]here was a section on the 'rave' records that sampled the show/theme that had to be cut for timing, for example. I remember dear old Peely playing a couple: Magic Roundabout by Planet Cook, and Summers Magic by Mark Summers (which also sampled I.T.M.A. ). Also Too Much Fun by The Chillin' Krew, ...

Everyone was very keen to do it properly so 'the forums' were the acid test really, so it's great to hear this. I was never a huge fan of the Planer version, for the very reasons he men...

Let's Go Round Again - The Story Of The Magic Roundabout is on Radio 4 at 4pm on 12th October and promises to be a cut above the usual cult children's TV documentary - I can state this with some confidence because I worked on it!! Hope you'll all agree when you hear it! More details here... http://t...

The Camberwick Green Mysteries #2: 'Bertie Baker'

Something that's been puzzling me for a while now - and which I've written about here: http://timworthington.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/wound-up-and-ready-to-play.html - is the fact that in both the first episode of Camberwick Green (Peter The Postman) and the re-recorded variation of the story on the W...

Re: Blue Jam

A contact has told me that 1/6 (ie basically 2/1 but with the Archbishop Of Canterbury/Diana edit intact) will not be broadcast, though for contractual reasons rather than censorhip; apparently there's a whole mess as to whether that constituted a complete programme or not.

Re: Programme ending with Dandelion Seeds being blown away..

Though far from Watch With Mother, could you perhaps be remembering the famous 1964 Lyndon B Johnson political advert? B&W footage shows a girl counting as she plucks the petals of a flower. The sound of her counting fades into a man counting down to a nuclear blast. Nope, definitely not - this was...

Re: The Incredible Vanishing Chigley

Thanks both, some interesting thoughts there. There wasn't really a huge influx of new programming in 1978-9, but that said, a lot of the older shows were 'retired' around then, lending weight to the 'other shows needing to be used up' theory (after all, Playboard and How Do You Do! hadn't long debu...

The Incredible Vanishing Chigley

While I'm on the subject of longstanding Watch With Mother mysteries, does anybody have any idea of why Chigley disappeared from the schedules for a couple of years, roughly 1977-81, while Trumpton and Camberwick Green continued to be shown? This is what I remember happening at the time and I was la...

I would have said Andy Pandy until I read your post properly and you seem to have discounted it. In fact I would have sworn to it. However, I think possibly you might be getting confused with the petals of a flower as thinking about it now I really don't remember a dandelion specifically. That migh...

Programme ending with Dandelion Seeds being blown away...?

I'm really desperate for some concrete evidence of which Watch With Mother show ended with footage of dandelion seeds being blown away whilst an off-screen voice intoned 'one o'clock... two o'clock...' etc. I personally remember this being the colour remake of Andy Pandy, as do several other reliabl...

The Children Of Totem Town (circa 1974, shown several times by the BBC in the late seventies) - I remember being quite startled by a sequence in which they all smoked a 'peace pipe'. There were also some unnerving monochrome/solarised bits. The two may not be unconnected.
