Re: Britbox - UK version

I signed up for the trial when Timeslip appeared. Just for the sake of being able to watch it via a TV service, which is something I never expected. Little things etc.................. Pleased to see the app appear on the Firestick as well.

Re: Recycled titles

Not quite the same, but there was an episode of Citizen Smith entitled Only Fools and Horses. They were both written by John Sullivan, though - you can hardly blame him for re-using his own title! If we're going down that road, every single episode of Birds of a Feather series 7 was named after a s...

Re: The Time Tunnel vs. Dr.Who

In the Tomorrow People story where they went back in time to the Roman Colosseum they had a "universal translator" that enabled them to understand any language in the universe. I doubt they were the first to use it, but it was a reasonable idea.

Re: The Time Tunnel vs. Dr.Who

I started watching the Time Tunnel on DVD a few years ago and got about half way through before giving up. It just seemed odd everyone in the French Revolution, Ancient Greece etc all spoke English. Nothing to say about Dr Who. That must surely limit your appreciation of motion-picture entertainmen...

Apparently the first original material on Britbox is going to be a new series of Spitting Image. Strange choice considering it stopped being funny after the first two series.

Re: Bless This House Series 1 (B&W) - on Forces TV

This is still running and I started watching recently. I saw the occasional episode as a kid but had not seen much of it. On checking the synopsis for the movie I was surprised to see that it had no connection to the series at all from a storyline point of view. Some things that happened just didn’t...

Re: Britbox - UK version

I'd forgotten about the Roobarb Forum and how terrible it is. I had a look out of curiosity having been reminded of it and did a search for "Timeslip". Before I could search I had to answer a "random question." "Which 1984 David Lynch film was based on a series of novels by Frank Herbert?" I have no...

Re: Last-minute replacements

I remember in November 1978 Viv Anderson was the first black man to play football for England (against Czechoslovakia) and having stayed up quite late to watch the highlights the BBC strike meant they showed a crap film instead. For the purpose of the thread it would probably help if I could remembe...

The person I spent Christmas with started a free 30 day trial on Christmas Eve. Complete waste of time. A load of Doctor Who suddenly appeared. That hasn’t enhanced it for me, by might for some.

Kenny Lynch (1938-2019)

Looking back he was someone who seemed to appear as a guest on the big TV shows of that ilk in the early/mid 70's. I have to admit I'd forgotten about him until reading today that he'd passed away.

Sheila Mercier (1919 - 2019)

Played Annie Sugden from the first episode of Emmerdale Farm. Second Emmerdale star to pass away in recent months. A much longer innings than Leah Bracknell.

Passed away last month after a long battle with cancer. Best known (or to many people exclusively) for her role as Zoe Tate in Emmerdale.

Timeslip was a victim of the 70/71 colour strike. Not that it mattered much as little care was taken of the rest of it.

Re: Acknowledging the other channel

Another Only Fools and Horses moment was in the Miracle of Peckham. Del phones Rodney (you only see Rodney) and tells him to contact BBC and ITV. Rodney says "What about Channel 4?" You don't hear what Del says but Rodney says "Oh no, right" in a tone that suggests Del dismisses the idea, and crosse...

Re: Acknowledging the other channel

The OFAH Corrie death mention was in Miami Twice when Boycie said something like " I'll bet he sent a note of sympathy to Rita Fairclough when old Len snuffed it." I'd have to watch it to get it more exact or the precise context, but I remembering him saying it.

Brookside went through a spell of taking a dig at Coronation Street. I remember one scene where Rod - who was a policeman - was working undercover in a supermarket and was filling the freezer section. At the time in Coronation Street Curley Watts was working at Bettabuy Supermarket. As he was stocki...

Goodnight Sweetheart

The first episode I ever saw of this was the 2016 reboot the BBC did as part of a reboot series. After watching it I decided to check out the original series. It's taken three years but no man is an island. Of course it was never going to make sense and wasn't supposed to, but I think it lacked cons...

Re: Banned documentary

I don't know if it was anything to do with this season of banned stuff (good word that) but I remember Channel 4 showing a programme about censorship and showing stuff that had been cut from films. A lot of it was rape and violence from films like Death Wish 2 and I recall one bloke saying how poor ...

Re: Striker (70's children's series)

Using the Lost Shows search box on tvbrain.info, Striker (1975) exists complete. Searching Genome, the breakdown seems to be a 3 part serial starting December 1975, a 5 part serial starting October 1976, and another 7 part serial starting in July 1977. Possibly something Simply might be interested ...

Striker (70's children's series)

This is one of the few children's series I remember actually watching anything of in the 70's and wouldn't mind seeing it again, assuming it still exists in some form. I thought it was earlier than 1976 (first episode New Years Eve 1975 into 76 so I suppose it was). It seems to have rather strange s...

ITV are doing a similar looking programme next Thursday at 9pm. Still only an hour long and with adverts to boot. Hopefully they'll squeeze in a bit more than a sobbing cousin and a mumbling detective.

The fact that Roger Cook is still alive tends to weaken the revenge theory a bit, but it only takes one nutter.
