Do you perhaps have the interpolating function active on your tv, that doubles the framerate? If so you won't notice the fact that AT was de-interlaced as your tv is regenerating the missing picture information.

Re: 'Armchair Theatre' on Talking Pictures

Whoever did the transfers of AT for TPTV needs a stern talking to. For a start what kind of idiot de-interlaces (i.e. filmises) a VT production? And the sound, my God I have never heard so much compression and expansion. The optical soundtrack noise is deafening on the Thames ident and there's lots ...

Re: The Right Hand Corner White Square.

Sometimes it has a black and white strobe effect that starts fast then slows down before the break for commercials. The precise format of the cue dot was up to the contractor, ABC had one that looked like they had punched a round hole in the picture through which a stobing cue dot was visible. Othe...

Re: The Gentle Touch on Talking Pictures TV.

When I worked on the transmission of now defunct channel "Film 24" we had several of the Southern TV titles that are now on TPTV, they were supplied on DigiBeta tapes but had the DVD menus recorded on the tape! I doubt anyone transmits from the actual DVD disc (far too messy) but that is certainly t...

They do look strange on the DVD, judging by the completely different film quality they have been cut on at some later time. Maybe even by Network themselves, odd that the episodes with those titles are all on one disc!

Re: Endeavour

It was definitely a 746. As for giving the makers a break, why? If you are producing a period piece you should research the details, and let's face it research is now easier than it has ever been. A handful of years ago you would have needed to contact countless groups and expert individuals to get ...

Endeavour

This week's episode, set in 1968/69 featured 746 model telephones (introduced in 1970!), scattered about an old police station which it appears is ear-marked for closure, so more likely lots of black bakelite than grey plastic. And the recording of "Jeux sans frontieres" by Southern TV in Oxford (on...

Re: Gideons Way (Talking Pictures)

Just for once, baring in mind Talking Pictures limited bandwidth, these TV broadcasts may be better than the show's official DVD release, which. which wasn't up to Network's usual standards. Don't hold your breath, there's a very good chance they will be the same transfers... The DVD bitrate is hig...

The break bumpers are missing, but the Granada captions are there. However some episodes mix to the "Family at war" title instead of "Granada production".
Not as hacked about as the Acorn release but still wrong! Both sets have loads of chroma noise too.

"Classic" Coronation St on ITV3

They call it "Classic", unfortunately they are starting in 1986, which for me is just about the year it stopped being a classic. Most of the great, memorable characters will be missing, and it's just about the time that the kids on the street started getting too much screen-time. Why not start at th...

Shot through a dull green mist! Odd that it was set far enough in the future for another human-like race to have developed but they were still driving petrol cars! An unsatisfactory, unresolved ending which prompted the announcer to stress that it would be a different story next week, presumably to ...
