Esma Cannon

I'm loving watching the DVD sets of The Rag Trade (1961-1963). Does anyone know why little Esma Cannon (played "brother Lil"", Esma was born in Australia, emigrated to England, married a German, had a son and all lived in London) died in France and was buried over there? http://trove.nla.gov.au/news...

On The Buses

Was the first series recorded on 405-line or 625-line videotape? And why did Series 2 start so soon after Series 1 - was the first series in the can for many months before airing? My guess is that Series 1 was recorded in 1968 but maybe someone here will know for sure?

The Sound Of Music Live

Much as I really enjoyed this live ITV musical last week, my television struggled a bit with fast motion. The show "looked" like live video but there was definitely something different about it - could it be a 'filmise' plug-in, or maybe it was it being shot at 60p or 24p ready for a worldwide Blu-r...

Re: Great Canal Journeys

I thoroughly enjoyed this all-too-short series, and kudos to the programme makers for producing the best quality pictures my UHD TV has ever seen. In comparison, Countryfile looks like it is shot using 1975 equipment. And don't get me started on This Morning which, as ITV's "flagship" daytime show, ...

Sunday Night At The (London) Palladium

I just watched Show One, typical ITV fodder with none of the magic of the original 1960's series. Little Mix 'sang' their 6-month old single and Bryan Adams opened with his hit from 30 years ago. Alan Davies shouted his way through an unfunny comedy routine saying "farting" five times. For some reas...

Re: The Kids From 47A

Thanks Simon, this follow-on ATV play also has the rest of the 47A cast in it so hopefully it survives and Network can include this as an extra on a future DVD release (hopefully they'll release all the epiosdes series by series and not leave me hanging in mid-air!). I can't seem to find Home Sweet ...

The Kids From 47A

I'm enjoying the first series of THE KIDS FROM 47A which is now out on DVD. Does anyone know what happened to the young actress who played Ginny Gathercole (Gaynor Hodgson)? iMdb doesn't have her appearing in anything else after this ended - did she continue acting for a career? I love watching her ...

Holiday Startime (LWT 1970)

Has anyone seen the LWT/ITV Boxing Day 1970 variety show Holiday Startime? What a star-studded cast cast it had - there's an 8-minute clip on YouTube so I assume the whole show survives? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIJTUmWPntk&hd=1 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311290/combined http://ftvdb.bfi.org...

The BBC's webpage said this show featured Arthur Askey and Bing Crosby but I never saw them - did I fall asleep and miss them??!

Re: Love Thy Neighbour on DVD

I have also read that there is a missing episode (April Fools?) which was supposedly deemed too extreme to be included on a DVD set - I assume this is the case across all regions, is that right or has this episode seen the light of day? Does anyone know the particular reason(s) why this is not incl...

Re: ATV - What's left to release?

I'd love to see this 1959 ATV show get released - I missed it when Channel 4 repeated it in 1992:-

The Bob Monkhouse Show with Morecambe & Wise, Mike & Bernie Winters, Pat Coombs, Hugh Lloyd, and Teddy Johnson & Pearl Carr.

Re: The Big Freeze - 1963/4

Aspect ratio aside, did camera pans in the programme leave behind a slight doubling/ghost image around the edges of objects and people? (or is my TV's motion engine playing up).
