Re: Sherlock Holmes
I've noticed the versions of Brett shown on ITV Hub are not the dvd versions but the HD rescans, although ITV Hub is limited to 540p resolution (but they still look better than the dvds). On Britbox US they are in 720p but ruined by noise reduction. The blurays are HD of course but they slowed them ...

I tend to find more interesting things on Iplayer's "From The Archive" section. For instance they just put up series 6 onwards of Silent Witness.

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs
It was completely normal until recently for actors to tease each other and play practical jokes during a production. It wasn't sexist because it applied equally to men and women. Nobody cared because people were grown ups then and not coddled children. God save us from the virtue signalling snowflak...

DOCTOR WHO.
I thought it was fucking awful in 2005 and the passage of 14 years has only strengthened that opinion. For a laugh I watched an episode of the latest series. Still badly written but now packed with obligatory box-ticking and politically correctness. Just awful beyond words.

Re: Bowie recovery after digitisation disaster
Reminds me of how HTV's The Georgian House, King Of The Castle and Sky were sent for transfer and they couldn't get a good playback of some episodes and so threw the tapes away. They probably just needed a good bake and they'd have been okay. What a waste.

Re: Backing up DVDs to Hard Drive
With hard drives having such high capacity now there is less need to reencode dvds to mp4. I rewrap the contents to mkv files which allows you to keep chapter points and everything else that is on the disc but ditch the annoying menus. You can use XMedia Recode to convert dvds to mkvs without reenco...

Re: "Hitchhikers" ( TV blu-ray/DVD)
"Upscaled". Totally and completely utterly pointless. Why not also release a black and white version and one with permanent subtitles burned in? My dvd player can do that too but I may as well pay the BBC to do it for me. Some people really are mugs.

The dvds were mastered from interpositive prints it says in the booklet. I would sure love to have it in HD.

The sound has been out of synch on every dvd Network have ever released, except a few recent ones. For all old Network releases, delay the audio by 80ms in VLC player.

Does anyone know if they've reinstated the cut music piece from series 1?
For that matter do we know if any music has been changed in series 2?

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs
The original Shada video footage will have to be deinterlaced and slowed down to 24fps for bluray. That's going to look quite horrible.

Re: "Adam Adamant" audio find
I sometimes think that when organisations say that things have been "recovered", what they are actually saying is that the item in question has gone from being in the hands of one small group of people to being in the hands of a different small group of people.

Re: Thriller: the Lost Scenes
Fascinating to see these. Regarding the US titles, they weren't created until after the original US run of the series, so I'm assuming the original US run had the fish eye titles, albeit with the title MENACE rather than THRILLER? This long standing mystery seems to have been solved with the appear...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs
I've never seen Marco Polo but I thought the audio was riveting and well and truly worthy of the label classic. I never liked the Hartnel space stories, he seemed ill at ease with them and much more in his element with the historicals. Aside from the first Daleks story and the Master Plan, most of t...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs
Shada would be at the very bottom of my list of things to animate. Also, there's no original audio so this would be a complete remount not a reconstruction. I can't say POTD did much for me but if you're going to animate something make it a great lost classic like Evil Of the Daleks or Marco Polo or...

At last! Aside from Whodunnit series 5 I haven't bought anything from Network in four years, so this is most encouraging. I hope they get their hands on more BBC stuff in future.

Re: Thriller: the Lost Scenes
I think the two edits were done simultaneously because the US versions had more ad breaks and so had different music and vision in the moments leading up to these. If they'd just done the US edit first and then somehow trimeed it down for the UK then you would expect the same music to be carried ove...

Re: Thriller: the Lost Scenes
As it's such a classic, perhaps Network could do one of their stand-alone releases with a new documentary ( albeit without the main man, Brian Clemens of course) and include the scenes as an extra, I'm sure there would be a lot of interest. Well if they want to do something with them I'm more than ...

Thriller: the Lost Scenes
About ten years ago I managed to acquire a lot of scenes deleted from the UK broadcasts of Thriller. These are from earlier edits which aired first in the US and had about 5 minutes of extra material per episode. Note that these are not title sequences but actual scenes and lines removed from the ve...

Until you claim your refund, you can stream on the BBC Store until Nov 1st and on Iplayer until June 1st. Anything you downloaded you can still watch for an indefinite period after your refund until a change of operating system eventually breaks the app (that is unless they have some surreptitious w...

It was like watching a car crash in slow motion. I'm sorry to see it go though because I got to see some things I never would have otherwise. Download your purchases now. If you bought a lot of stuff then authorise an external drive and download them to that.

Pete And Dud The Lost Sketches
On channel 4 the other day. Some of this stuff was in the Peter Cook special last month but some of it I've not seen before. Pity they cropped it all for widescreen.
