Re: Future of BBC Four

Yesterday's Times had a News article Historian laments loss of BBC4 spirit . It starts with The decision to downgrade BBC4 to leave a channel dominated by repeats indicates that the national broadcaster has had enough of experts... And ends with The BBC said the channel would offer an "absolutely st...

It was a repeat of the 2013 one, wasn't it?
I didn't notice - a lot of repeats just now.

Re: Time Team - extended episode

Time Team is coming back. With Sir Tony Robinson an honorary Patron (and no mention of Phil Harding so far) Tim Taylor, Carenza Lewis, Stewart Ainsworth, Helen Geake, John Gater at al. are, at first, to investigate the Broughton Estate in Oxfordshire, belonging to the Fiennes family. Great News!

I didn't watch 'The Vicar Of Dibley' but I do remember him being very good in a BBC Shakespeare play. R.I.P. a fine actor.

Re: Teletext still alive !

Is it me, or is the BBC slowly but surely reducing the amount of new news content in the various sections? Some morning, I turn on and it's exactly the same as the night before. If they are secretly still planning on axing it completely, I wish they'd be honest about it. I've certainly noticed that...

Re: "The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy": 7 June 1980

It's good to have the many different versions of THHGG to go into - from the Radio Series, the books, the TV series and the records etc. I like the TV series and the book 'So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish' the best. Of course its all thanks to Douglas Adams idea, ability to convince the BBC abou...

Re: The box that says “the adverts are coming”

I’ve just been watching Robin’s Nest on DVD and they have them on there as well. It starts about 30 seconds before the end of Part 1, where I'd assume there would have been a commercial break. I’ve only watched Series 1 so far though. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them on other DVDs as well. Interestin...

First Out - BBC Radio 4 Drama

I listened to quite an interesting drama this afternoon at 3pm. Mike, the second born, was played by Sam Troughton - yes Patrick's grandson - (and the first twin, Jim, was Peter Sullivan). Four other voice actors played the younger twins in the flashbacks. It strangely reminded me of Richard Wison's...

Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels

Usually ITV4's episodes of The Protectors are broadcast, at least once, without sign language in the corner. I've been wanting them to have with the original ad-break - which you don't get on the DVD's. These late Series 1 ones, on just now, are all labelled SL. Can I assume that the TV's TV guide i...

Eurovision 2020/21

I thought the 'Eurovision : Europe Shine A Light' broadcast on 16 May 2020 was excellent. Don't know if any new technology or effects were used but the music quality sounded better than ever. There were delays (as always) in live conversations. Mon's reprise and Israel's Hallelujah were my favourite...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

With thankfully few time travel paradoxes to get lost in this felt to me like a good old Terry Nation adventure. As he approached the incinerator I wanted the technology guy to forget about the recycling - and the Doctor's escape was very slick.

Buff Hardie 1931-2020

Buff Hardie has passed away. He was the last of the entertainment trio Scotland the What? The name cleverly reflecting, of course, their gentle take on the sentiments behind the song Scotland the Brave, let us know exactly what to expect in an evening of great comedy and music. I learned today that...

We Love Dad's Army

I enjoyed this Channel 5 documentary with lots of new (to me) looks behind the scenes. I especially liked them in/on Jones's van in the London to Brighton car run. It was nice to, at least, hear Ian Lavender's 2020 comments; maybe done over the phone or from the radio? Good to see Caroline Dowdeswel...

Did you know there is a book out on the series from Miwk Publishing, covering the TV and Audio episodes, full of interviews as well.
No I didn't; thanks, it sounds very interesting.
