Re: "Newspaper readers" joke in Yes Prime Minister
An allusion to the oldest profession, perhaps, not that using sex to sell papers was anything new.

Re: Overseas (Archives and Schedules)
The original microfilming would have been the tediously slow bit. The scanning from microfilm is actually quite quick and automated. Thanks for the link as it is always interesting to see the formats of other listing magazines and what was being broadcast.

Re: US TV shows that had different titles in UK
Would it be more to do with syndication broadcasts after the initial US transmission causing the confusion with another series of the same name rather than it being a year later and being thought fresh in the viewers mind? There was no chance of two different series of the same name turning up at th...

Network were usually pretty good with sleeve information regarding transmission dates etc. and I am sure they did get around to releasin...

Taggart was sold overseas and that didn't seem to suffer from having no Taggart, although I don't know if the title was changed.

Re: Benny Green - "Big Band Hour"
Sorry Brock, I updated the entry as you posted. I've had it clarified that it was BRMB that broadcast them by someone that has a current subscription to the British Newspaper Archive. The snippet view available to non-subscribers isn't that easy to glean info from, especially as the OCR isn't the gr...

Re: Benny Green - "Big Band Hour"
The website says " I became a lowly station assistant at BBC Radio Birmingham, now Radio WM, and was then the first voice on BRMB, where I stayed for almost twenty-five years." about BRIAN SAVIN. Doing a quick search on the British Newspaper Archive there are entries for late 81 and mid 82 in Midlan...

Have you contacted the BFI? They would be the ones who would be likely to know what they have been given. I doubt they would pass on more information like the condition, but it always a good idea to try the horses mouth first.

It is Daily Mail readers that are always accused of living in the past? Perhaps that makes everything current and satirical!

No, not an Eye reader, nor a Mail reader either. As he has been a columnist for a while I'm sure the Mail readership will have spotted it was tongue in cheek immediately. I was aware of Brown (1966 and all that immediately sprung to mind) but haven't listened to his more recent series.

Re: Basil Brush meets Chairman Mao ??
Was it really satire? It seemed more like schoolboy humour to me. Perhaps satirical standards have dropped and we can expect a lot more like filler this. With fake news most definitely at the forefront these days, and research only being cursory in many cases, I would have thought any publication wo...

Re: Basil Brush meets Chairman Mao ??
A single stop, but the original Uxbridge station was replaced with the current one and the track alignment disappeared under sidings - possibly an interesting half hour programme if anyone wished to make it. It being a short run is not obvious to anyone who isn't local or who has an interest in rail...

Charlotte Cornwell 26 April 1949 - 16 January 2021
Rock Follies, obviously, and much more. Her name came up in a thread elsewhere and the name was familiar, but not the face, so I googled and read the Wikipedia. The first I knew of her death.

Re: Issues with PMs (Private Messges)
Can you try clearing your browser cache [ctrl+F5]? [update] It appears there is a cookie/cache issue more generally in the last couple of months. Often this is attributed to Chrome/Android phone users, but as that is the largest browser market and there are a few reports on Firefox and Opera, it is ...

Re: Issues with PMs (Private Messges)
Thanks DoubleM for giving me details - I'll see what I can do. PMs have been working for me even though I suspected that there were some issues with others. Although admins can sign in as other users (to view the board as they do, so supposedly see any issues they are experiencing) it doesn't extend...

Re: Just published - 'A THRILLER in Every Corner'
If you are having problems with the PMs can you let me know - open a new thread - as I can try to investigate. Admin have no way to check or tinker with individual users PMs so I can only test out using a dummy account. That isn't necessarily the same as normal use so it is difficult to spot any ope...

Re: 'Royal Family' leaked
But BBC 1 & 2 were both in colour at Christmas 1969? Across the whole country? I thought there were still regions that only got BBC1 in black and white and the coverage of BBC2 was still smaller than BBC1. I'll have to dig through the Handbooks as perhaps it was just colour production facilities th...

Re: 'Royal Family' leaked
Elizabeth R does ring a bell. It'll be on Genome and IIRC the edition of RT used the Coronation photo on the cover. It was a myth yeas ago that Royal material was locked away in a special cupboard. I actually asked the Head of Sound Archives if this was true, but it wasn't. There are certainly restr...

Re: 'Royal Family' leaked
It continues to do the rounds. I have posted this elsewhere: A 110min slot when originally broadcast in June 1969 with a 2 minute interval, it was a 105min slot when re-broadcast on BBC1 and 2 simultaneously on Christmas day that year*. The repeat on New Years day on BBC1 was 105min, as was the repe...
