Susan Sheridan (1947-2015)

Perhaps best remembered as the original Trillian (Trisha McMillan) in H2G2.

BBC (which - as is so often the case with them nowadays - cocks it up by referring to the H2G2 radio series as a "radio adaptation" rather than an original production).

World Of Sport - Font?

Just been asked this elsewhere, and couldn't find an answer:

Does anyone know the name of the font used for the classic "World Of Sport" and "The Big Match" titles?

Ah, yes! The ones which John Peel sent up over a decade later with: 'It is my duty to warn you that in the next few hours you may be exposed to language and concepts you find unsettling. If this is the case I suggest you turn over....And here's Fuckatron, on Cunty Records, with "I Sodomised My Dad"....

Good effort that, I thought.

Or, as Jim Laker always used to say when RB handed over to him during those BBC TV commentaries in the 70s, "Thank you, Richie".

Syzygy - "Light Is All Around"

Perhaps a slight tangent here. The above single was released on BBC Records (cat. no. RESL 96) in 1981. It was composed by Bob Kite and produced by Mike Harding (presumably the ex-DJ rather than the folkie). Given that it was on BBC Records, it can be assumed that it was linked to a TV or radio prog...

Re: When and why did presenters start introducing themselves

There are clips around where the opening wording is simply 'This is the BBC Home and Forces Programme. This is Bruce Belfrage' - for victory at El Alamein. This might have not been a regular news bulletin though. I remember hearing an old clip of a number of BBC announcers talking about their job -...

The name had been familiar from the voice credits both of Scooby Doo and Battle Of The Planets, but I first heard him in extenso when Radio Nova (Dublin) broadcast AT40 on Sunday afternoons in '81/'82. AT40 was broadcast in the UK as well - I remember Signal Radio playing it out at one time.

It was depressing enough when the TV icons of my childhood started dropping off the twig. Re: Vivian Stanshall - English as Tuppence

Very good programme. I particularly liked the anecdote about the time he did the gig at Southend Poly. It's one of those, "Even if it wasn't true, in a fair and just universe it should be true!" stories. One aspect of Vivian's work which I felt was rather glossed over was his songwriting ability. Ev...

Oh yes, that reminds me of the other one: the one where - irrespective of how much unseemly thrashing about there may have been, both parties emerge from the bed in the same full sets of underwear with which they entered (if you see what I mean). It requires a sense of neatness and order which is we...

The L-shaped bed-sheets.

You know, the ones which are in all post-coital bedroom scenes where the protagonists are lying side by side.

The ones which only go up to the bloke's navel, but at the same time reach up to the woman's shoulders.
