Re: Shows ruined by revival/comeback

Perhaps there should be a thread about shows which seem to continue because of inertia, i.e. they've always been there and just go on being there? I think all the old soaps have fallen into that category nowadays.

Getting back on topic, the revival of Crossroads was a non-starter.

I don't think this has been noted here:

Yes, Vintage TV is all music I think. It seems they’ve been in some negotiations with Sky which are now resolved, so maybe they’ll be back on Freeview.

Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels

Maybe it’s been posted already, but Forces TV is now on Freeview channel 96.

Vintage TV seems to have gone from channel 82, a pity as there was some ok music there. The EPG now says you can try out a new way of watching at their website, an ominous sentence if ever I heard one.

I saw the leaked clip and I didn't think Jodie Whittaker was bad in herself. It's just a bad idea, playing to people who frankly belong on the lunatic fringe of fandom.

Re: "Strangers" theme tune

Joe Zawinul certainly wasn't a pseudonym. As well as being in Weather Report he played with Miles Davis and composed tracks on In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew. The Strangers theme was by Mike Moran, who has quite a long list of TV music credits - and yes, he'd have been in trouble if Weather Report...

Re: US TV shows that were more popular in Britain

Re Murder One, the whole point of the show was to tell the story of a single trial over the season - possibly inspired by OJ Simpson? Anyway, changing the format and replacing Daniel Benzali was obviously doomed to failure.

The band Serious Drinking had a song called "Countdown To Bilko", a tribute to its status at the time (c.1982) as a fixture last thing before closedown on BBC1 at the weekend.

Re: Gideons Way (Talking Pictures)

Gideon's Way was a hard-hitting show for its time. In one episode the guest star gets away with murder. Another, "The Great Plane Robbery", has a subplot involving homosexuality. My favourite episode is "The Nightlifers", with Anton Rodgers as the leader of a gang of beatnik hooligans. And there's "...

Re: Sitcom jokes that no longer work

One thing that had really changed in any narrative is information gathering. Gone are the days when characters could be side-tracked to libraries, newspaper morgues, and Somerset House in search of clues or answers! I've been watching series 2 of "Witnesses" (or "Les Temoins") and the two main char...

I didn't see Gunpowder, but most of the BBC drama I've seen in the last few years has felt like fake film to me.
