Re: The Family (1974)

That theme music is an instant trip back...

Re the idea having been done before, there was a US series called "An American Family" in which I think the eldest son came out as gay on camera, that was a year or two earlier.

Re: Network - 40% of everything for one week sale

Red was the name of the satellite channel which had the rights to show 'Crown Court'. Used to be called Legal TV. Oh dear. When a channel changes its name from something which implies a definite genre of programming to something which could mean almost anything, it's on its way to perdition - other...

Re: Network - 40% of everything for one week sale

The Youtube upload has a (quite unobtrusive) DOG on - "red"??? As you say the DVDs have been in chronological order, but Network included another 1977 story with Don Henderson as an extra on one of the Strangers DVDs.

In the light of later events one can't help thinking she might have been ready to laugh at anything.

Re: Network - 40% of everything for one week sale

I imagine the object of a Network sale is to shift some back stock. Quite why they should be expected to knock near half the price off stuff when it's still got its best chance of selling, I don't know.

Network seem to be giving as much attention to film as TV these days, not that that's anything to complain about.

Re: When are they EVER going to release...

Just looked on Youtube and found the opening and closing titles of one episode, which actually credits Prokofiev in full for the theme... I was also a bit amazed to see that that episode was written by Sid Waddell, the late Voice of Darts?!

Re: Shows made with video and film

There's an episode of Prisoner Cell Block H in which a character sets her cell on fire, and for some reason (safety?) the fire scene was shot on film instead of video, and the sudden change is incredibly jarring - I remember for several seconds really not being sure it was the same show.

Re: News Flash

ITV did an onscreen news caption when Harold Shipman was found guilty on all charges - can't remember the programme, maybe it was Inspector Morse or something similar, so a bit like showing other results during sports?

Re: CATS Eyes

It'd probably be entertaining to see now, but extremely dated and silly - it was a spin-off/sequel to the The Gentle Touch, with Jill Gascoigne playing Maggie Forbes but with all pretence of realism dropped, so it was hardly a strong idea to begin with.

20 discs, seven volumes = the Merton Park films collected, each volume containing an extra Independent Artists film. Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

A cliffhanger wouldn't necessarily be the regeneration fireworks beginning, then an abrupt "TO BE CONTINUED". They could have it go wrong and the Doctor appear to die, or turn into a non-human form, so the next series would begin with him being revived in a new form. In the meantime he'd be a specia...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

I seriously doubt that John Hurt is going to be the Doctor* in next year's series. I've got a dreadful feeling that the new, as yet unknown Doctor will debut in a Moffat-planned series arc in which he "rediscovers himself" by trusting to Clara. (*I can imagine an alternative history in which the the...

Sad news - with all the show's faults in the last two years, he's always been good. And now there's the succession. Surely the next Doctor must already be chosen, or nearly? Or will the Christmas special end with him halfway regenerated as a cliffhanger?

Presumably the missing episodes' scripts couldn't be found to include on the DVD? It is a great series, by the way.
