Harry Dean Stanton (1926-2017)

I didn't realise he was that old - an actor who made it in the late afternoon of his career and then had a good long run.

I don't think Network ever did pre-orders on everything, did they? They seem to have slowed down a lot in the last year, too.

Re: The 1974 10.30pm closedown

IT'S a chilling thought...but I don't think a British government could implement a compulsory television closedown any more. I think Big Business has made that impossible. I think that's probably true - even if all the broadcasters consented to a closedown, what would stop people from going online ...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

They're addressing the show's writing by replacing a not untalented but hopelessly self-indulgent and creatively exhausted writer with a thoroughly mediocre and derivative one. Yeah, that'll fix it.

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

I had a look. I thought it was a typical Moffat story - convoluted, full of its own cleverness, self-referential ("I waited"), and also quite padded; Moffat writes for The Bit, and gets from one Bit to another by way of a lot of tedious talk.

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

The thing about the casting in Who is its obvious "representation" - the military unit with the woman leader, the competent black guy, the eager younger woman private, and the white guy who hardly says anything or is an obstructive jerk or just gets killed early on, etc etc. But I admit I haven't wa...

I think you are confusing FALCON CREST with FLAMINGO ROAD... Correct! Though Morgan Fairchild was in both. I remember Flamingo Road as being a good series, I'd like to see it again. I watched some title sequences on Youtube, and those Eighties US soaps look so remote from nowadays. It reminds me of...

In The Year Of The Sex Olympics, as well as the title programme and The Live Life Show there's "Artsex", featuring an old fashioned striptease act.

I remember around 1971 TV Times put out an "emergency issue", all in black and white - it was actually billed as that on the cover, which I remember featured Please Sir. Was that anything to do with this strike?
