Re: The Glory Days of Cult TV Fanzines - Is There Interest S

I remember picking up a copy of the Fiddy/Mechele Saint book, about the same time as I got Dave Rogers books on Dangerman/The Prisoner and his big Avengers one. Great reads for their time.

Re: The Glory Days of Cult TV Fanzines - Is There Interest S

Whilst it’s true that Nothing at the end of the line is excellent, it only comes out once in a blue moon (worth the wait though) so it’s a bit of a push to describe it as thriving, as in “hungry for more?, well sorry but you’ll have to wait about 4 years”. It’s a labour of well researched love as op...

Maybe because the person with the "robot voice" is a world respected scientist whose achievements are backed up by scientific rigour.

Furthermore a scientist, when presented with new evidence, will be open to changing their mind. Ever try that with a religious zealot?

Re: "Adam Adamant" audio find

It was made in B/W and there is no video. So colour recovery will cost you nothing... From what I can gather the real expense with colour recovery, of suitable material, would be the HD scan needed for the process to work. Richard Russell’s amazing software would then do its magic, although I expect...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

I strongly suspect you are the minority here Mark. Do you always read a book from cover to cover in one go? And what is Doctor Who if not convenience food TV anyway? As for the cinema, I never go anyway, and certainly wouldn’t go for some upscale 70s VT and some animation. But hey the BBC presumably...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

I haven’t seen Shada since August 1992 or whenever the original release was but I’ve always regarded it as just a curio and so whilst I’d rather it was episodic i’m not going to go bonkers if they present it as feature length as I can’t see myself ever watching it more than once. I just find it laug...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

Shush! Don’t let technical knowledge get in the way of conspiratorial ignorance... Actually, it might still be a valid concern. If the "live" footage is at 50 frames then wouldn't it follow that the animation being spliced into it would also have to be? I don't really know how modern animation tech...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

The original Shada video footage will have to be deinterlaced and slowed down to 24fps for bluray. That's going to look quite horrible. There's no need to slow it down to 24fps for the UK BD. It'll be 1080i50 and look just like it should do. As an added bonus it'll be the best picture quality it's ...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

I just love the idea of an “average person” wanting to buy a single episode of Galaxy 4!!

That concept alone shows how barmy this “debate” is. And we wonder why so many Doctor Who fans are viewed as “barkers”.

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

I’m perfectly aware of the DVD of Shada and indeed bought it but haven’t got round to watching it because I wasn’t that bothered with it in the first place. It certainly doesn’t make me think of conspiracy theories etc re other versions of it. Re Levine. How much did he spend on it from his own mone...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

Well anyone reading your posts on this forum re Doctor Who can swiftly draw their own conclusions... Why should the BBC reveal anything about Shada and as for Levine feeling ripped off, he’s had his version that he can watch whenever he likes. If you’ve lost sleep over the years since he made it fee...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DV

Why does it make the “entire team” look bad? Nobody asked Levine to make his Shada and of course he then acted like a petulant child when it was rejected. Levine is a master of making himself out to be the victim and then some guillible Doctor Who fans accept everything he says at face value resulti...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

I can only presume from the above that you’ve never had any personal dealings with Ian Levine... As for colour Pertwees how much did he contribute towards The Mind Of Evil? He’s notorious for over stating his contribution towards recovering missing episodes and deep down just can’t seem to accept th...

Re: "Adam Adamant" audio find

All talk of a rerelease seems to blissfully ignore the fact that the original release was from a sales point a flop. An extra audio is hardly likely to entice people to double dip or even single dip. The only viable way forward is an audio download. But given the very conservative nature of a lot of...

Then again, sometimes I don't know what to think anymore either. There tend to be complaints about recoveries not seeing the light of day, but when three "1948 Show" episodes are uploaded on youtube (legally!), they get almost no views: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqAiqGoAxOM https://www.youtub...

Presumably Simply have a much lower “hurdle rate” than the BBC with regard to profitability.

technically there would be no issue offering downloads/streaming but it has to be economically viable. This doesn’t mean just break even but justify the opportunity cost of obtaining clearances etc. Sadly I just don’t see this as being viable.

Re: "Adam Adamant" audio find

There is a market for nostalgia but for something like AAL the demographic is getting smaller and smaller. Unlike Dads Army it just hasn’t had the repeats (junking obviously hit the show badly in that respect). The problem I see with a lot of the returns etc is that understandably they tend to be an...
