Quatermass on TiVo

Probably not Earth-shattering stuff, but did anyone else notice that Hammer's The Quatermass Experiment on BBC Two (1st August) was listed under the American title 'The Creeping Flesh' on Virgin Media's TiVo?

Re: Judge Dredd partworks

It's a shame that the out-of-court settlement included an agreement never to reprint the contentious Cursed Earth installments, as there's now a parody exception in UK copyright law. Very much so; thankfully, I've still got the 1994 Titan books release, which I believe is intact. You sure? I though...

Dartford branch had Merton and Barker ONLY, annoyingly. I also checked the new small Poundland in Thamesmead yesterday and they had none at all.

Fair play, but I think that the Sky performance was the same one as the previously shown TOTP.

Re: Top of the Pops 1980

Having watched this week's TOTP long version on iPlayer, I was was struck by two issues. Firstly, that this was very heavy on the re-playing of studio recordings and from previous weeks and music video. Those in the audience for that week must have felt a bit short changed. Secondly - and this may b...

Thought it was a nice touch that they used the original incidental music score for the Fireflash-landing-on-the-pods sequence this week.

Re: Thunderbirds (2015) First viewing

it was possibly no surprise when the clueless people in charge threw New Captain Scarlet away 10 years ago NCS was never going to take the world by storm (the original was hardly a blockbuster), and ITV was the only TV company in the world that bothered to buy it - everybody else passed. In all fai...

Re: Old TV Series on Blu-Ray

I'm going to say this for the sake of it, but how much of the above is also coupled with the average size vintage television screens or how far away we sat from CRTs? The TV screen we had when I was growing up was 21 inches and we viewed it from across the room, but I'm now viewing on a 40 inch LCD ...

I think I'll wait to see what evidence is put forward, as it could be 'pushing or shoving', or even 6 of one... The 'assault' wasn't reported to the local police, and only raised a few days later w...

Re: The All-Purpose Current Doctor Who (2005-) Thread

Yes, if some viewers want to watch in a half-hearted way or not give a toss about inconsistencies, thinking it's just mindless rubbish so who cares, then that's up to them. But it's certainly not an attitude that the show's author should share. This is very revealing: http://youtu.be/_nERGFg_SdM?t=...

I wouldn't call myself a Dredd newbie, but I will admit to dropping out in the mid/late-eighties, so I might even have a look at The Complete Case Files myself as, if this partwork has achieved anything, it has re-kindled my interest in the series and I want to read more of the stuff I missed. I als...

Anyone out there going to collect the Judge Dredd partworks that were released this month? I've picked up the first couple of issues, but I simply won't be able to afford to collect the whole set - or really have the space for them. Or are these partworks a rip-off and there are far better value Jud...

Re: Reality TV - Documentary?

Documentaries are reality TV. What is called "Reality TV" is I think better described by the US (?) designation of "Unscripted programs" or what I would call "Contrived Reality" Close. The technical industry term they actually use for nonsense like The Only Way is Essex is 'Constructed Reality'. I ...

Re: Reality TV - Documentary?

How about a show like "7-Up", etc? Technically that's "point a camera and see what happens", but it's been pretty lauded over the years. There can be a very blurred line between the traditional documentary, and what we see as "reality TV". Some of these reality shows must be good, surely? I don't m...

It was genuinely something I've only noticed recently. It was quite acute IIRC on an episode of Revolution where the credits lasted for quite a while after the starting titles. However, this may have been an exception as I remember remarking about how many executive producers the show was carrying. ...

Re: D.O.G. s**t all over the screen

Sorry to revive this old thread - and I hope it's the correct one to use - but I've noticed a trend in current US series where they play the names of actors, execs, producers etc at the bottom of the screen from the start of and up to ten minutes into the programme. Does this qualify as extra DOG s*...

So someone else saw that happen too! The GF watched the submarine film after I'd watched The Avengers. I also found it odd that they broadcast The Avengers in 16:9 with black borders (Tru's DOG present on the left black border) but no borders for the submarine film which ended up stretching 5:4 to 1...

Reality TV - Documentary?

The significant other has been watching many of the reality programmes that Channel 4 seem to currently rely on to fill their schedule. Sometimes being in the same room, I've been exposed to things like The Hotel, Educating The East End and Posh Pawn (I think that's what it's called). After, there i...

It's the kind of thinking that got me annoyed when you had that boring debate over whether the Radio 1 Top 40 should play Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead, with people saying Gambo saying they HAD to, because "the chart is the news". No. The official chart is the list of forty songs compiled by the UK C...
