Re: 'Armchair Theatre' on Talking Pictures
Yes, TPTV do seem to be unaware when they’re delivered video files for TX that have been wrongly processed. Numerous eps of “The Gentle Touch” at least one “Callan” and various other videotape productions they’ve shown have been horribly de-interlaced. 25fps and ghastly line structure evident. I’ve ...

Re: "The London Studios:Home Of The Stars"
You’re right, “Wish Me Luck” ran into 1990 (presumably RX 1989) and “The Charmer” was 1987 so I rather think that “Wish Me Luck” was the last LWT multi-cam drama recorded at TLS. Although of course there may have been subsequent stuff. Where was “A Perfect Hero” recorded? TX 1991 and it was a co-pro...

Re: Public Eye on Talking Pictures TV
Nice to see it being shown on TV. Does seem strange that the into/out of break sting & cap have been removed and the breaks placed at odd moments even though the cue dots are there to leave no doubt where they were intended to be. Has anyone else noticed that although most eps of this and “The Gentl...

Re: The 1980s and classic theme tunes
Indeed, although I'd expand it to include the '60s to early '90s. A heyday of so many thing in television. I'll resist the temptation to drift off topic and get all analytical about the original "Crossroads" music or gush about Denis King's LWT stuff... I must admit to absolutely loving Roger Webb's...

Re: Division 4
Sunday evening viewing is episode 90 of "Division 4" entitled "Everyone Loves a Prang" and suddenly I'm reminded of Granada TV's "Spindoe" by some very familiar music cues. Recognising loads of tracks in these Crawford shows but can't always place them. I'm sure there's stuff from ITC series and VT ...

Ah, you had better luck Googling than I did - thanks! I'm on episode 55 of Division 4, still really enjoying it - Robert Bruning seems to be in it as someone different every couple of weeks at the moment, though I imagine there'll be a break when he starts doing The Long Arm. Is Matlock Police alon...

According to a number of sources...Google is your friend... the location was at 95 Montague Street, South Melbourne. It's long since been demolished by the look of things now. The Police station in Matlock Police is still there at 31 Ringwood Street, Ringwood, VIC. Still very much enjoying this seri...

Re: Unfeasibly large flatscreen TVs in 1980s news studios
I think you're mistaken. The old "One O'Clock News" set surely just had rear projection Mitsubishi TVs as in-vision monitors, dressed to match the set. "Newsnight" used to have them too, either a very large NEC TV or the "double mitsi" (2 smaller Mitsubishi rear projection TVs). Such TVs were readil...

Re: Newreaders hang to the left?
Nonsense, you only have to watch Naga Munchetty on "Breakfast" to realise screen position is irrelevant. She's got the programme by the scruff of the neck whoever she's sat next to. Plus, she doesn't wear "brightly coloured dresses". She's refreshingly anti-glam and very highly skilled. I must confe...

It's not only "The Awakening" (News at Ten) which turns up. Both "Division 4" and "Matlock Police" have final scenes with "The Plane Makers" end/start of part music.
I'm really enjoying this Aussie stuff.

Parcel post from Eaton Films today. Division 4 looks promising, as do Matlock Police and The Box, very competent productions. Division 4 looks the best on first inspection though, really very good indeed. Volume 1 of Homicide from 1964 looks very primitive in comparison. Illustrates the huge progres...

Is this version of "A Magnum for Schneider" from VTR? ISTR it survives on tape but the previous release was the cranky old TR lifted from Frank Muir's "TV Heaven" showing.

Re: The Sound Of Music Live
I suppose it depends what telly you're watching on and how it's set up. It looked to me like it was being shot 25psf. Which on a properly set up television, with all the "clever" features switched off and disabled, will have the usual stroboscopic film look. However, if you're watching on a new tell...

I didn't watch it all but professional curiosity meant that dipping in and out was irresistible. I must admit to having a WTF? moment when the "End of Part" super appeared. Ridiculous, not only going totally against ITV's own house rules but also rather industry jargonish without a number. Can't beg...

Yes, TWAW in HD but 4:3 would be good. Plus it'll be good to have "Rumpole" with idents, end/start of part stings and original, period appropriate, prod caps intact.
Hopefully some "This Week" will be released too...

Re: 16mm vs. 35mm inserts
In the earliest days of location VT inserts, how would these have been combined with the studio parts of the programme? In as-live productions, any film sequences would be cued to run at the appropriate point in the action, but what of VT location sequences or, I suppose, VT inserts of any kind? Wo...

Re: No BBC1+1 After All
Quite right too! The very fact that, with iPlayer and catch-up services and PVRs, some fuck-wits at the BBC actually thought that BBC-1+1 could, in any way, be justified, shows that they still need teaching a lesson. Frittering away channel space on any species of +1 should be an absolute no-no for ...

Re: That LWT look
Your best bet, would be to stick to: 'Over-lit and slightly pinkish'. I think the chrome and glass look was simply the 'latest' look at the time, across the board ( remember the heavy use of Brown in late 70's/early 80's shows like "321" and "Give Us a Clue"). Not overlit, I'd wager the LD went rou...

Summary dismissal isn't really the thing these days, due process has to be followed. I think he's a twit, there's no excuse (except mental illness or being a child) for violence. I purchased series one in the recent Network sale, along with an indecent amount of other titles (credit card squealed, fully paid off though - neither a borrower nor a lender be -) and it's really charming. I'd only ever seen JVG in "Rumpole" and "Duty Free" so had only ever seen her pantomime turn...

I happened to catch the episode which aired at the weekend. Just channel hopped to the BBC as the opening titles were on, momentarily thought it was CBeebies! I'm quite sure that a three-year-old child would be beside themselves at the antics. Really difficult to believe it's on BBC One or Two (whic...

I really like it too, it's a jem, at once clearly a flight of fancy, yet quite gritty and kitchen sinky compared to the usual ITC fare. I think it was discussed in another thread ages ago but the location filming around London is indeed a fascinating glimpse of 1964. The series also made extensive u...

Interesting to hear critique of Raymond Bower's writing style, I always liked his scripts, I can see that his style can sometimes be...baffling, but generally it's excellent. Up on the sixth floor, in the hallowed heights of News, there was a small room next to N2 gallery that was still referred to in the '90s as the "Anchor lobby", many years after the last time any such contraption last resided there.

I actually got up and watched the first one. Yes the recorded intro to the regional news did look a bit pony. However, I'm up in Granadaland at the moment. It is a service to those who are susceptible, and as with "if you don't want to know the score, look away now." It at least warns them specifically when they need to avert their gaze. But the "DOES" is not only preposterously intoned, it's totally superfluous. What's wrong with "this report contains...
