Re: D.O.G. s**t all over the screen
I must say that I absolutely LOVE the new ITV re-brand. And the D.O.G. is very small, very transparent, and right on the cusp of 16:9 safe area, let alone caption safe! What's all the fuss about? The new trails and idents, plus a bit of fundamental rethinking of how junctions are executed, has elimi...

Re: ATV - What's left to release?
Yes, a release of Schools and Colleges stuff would be brilliant. It could be a Smörgåsbord of different things. Mathematics, Science, English, History etc. Pick the cream of noteworthy/excellent titles and put then together on an "Independent Television for Schools and Colleges" volume. The "play al...

Re: The erasing of Savile: They missed one!
it really does seem like double standards when people here scoff at episodes being deleted from history and then hold shows like the ones I mentioned as somehow more important Don, if you'd read what I wrote, I wasn't making any judgement about "importance". I was simply pointing out that dropping ...

Re: ATV - What's left to release?
Surely Equity members aren't allowed to veto and deprive other members of income. PS. Pity he doesn't veto Only Fools and Horses. I think it depends upon their contract but main characters can have a veto. Didn't Martin Shaw exercise his veto on "The Professionals" being shown on ITV for a number o...

Re: 30th anniversary of Breakfast Time
Ah, I was only 6 and I can't remember Breakfast Time. I only remember getting up at 5am on the first day of TV-am and sneaking downstairs, putting the telly on and then....my Dad obviously sensed the movement downstairs of number one son and came down, said it was too early to be up and certainly to...

Re: PR: ITC Soundtracks on Vinyl [Network]
Hmmmm.......soooo tempting. I only just spent a fortune on myself at Christmas time.... but Network just know how to tempt me. Is there any chance of the whole soundtrack thing expanding beyond ITC? How much tape/grams survives in ITV's archive from other shows? Did grams/tapes of the various music ...

Here's a link: http://www.edp24.co.uk/business/norwich_based_tv_company_steps_in_to_buy_epic_studios_from_norfolk_county_council_1_1195572 One of my workmates is a local to the area and was livid when the deal went through. He said we should've all clubbed together if it was only going for £150,000....

The Magdalene Street building is no longer anything to do with Norwich City Council. Having not made much of it they recently jettisoned it for a fraction of its value.

I'll give a "Hear! Hear!" to Panasonic. I think they're the best of the bad bunch that is modern domestic tellys. I mean that in the sense that Pannys are easy to get looking "proper" like what I see on a monitor at work. Depends on the model but they also have the option to under scan as a menu fea...

Re: Southern Television cuts
Cheers Brian :-) Merry Christmas everyone. That's a very interesting explanation but I still don't fully understand the principles your talking about. I've seen 16mm stuff edited with taped splices along the frame edge. If you jog through on certain programmes you can see the hint of Sellotape (or w...

Southern Television cuts
I've sneaked open an Xmas present and I'm watching "The Capone Investment" and "Dangerous Knowledge" with my Mum and Dad. I'm intrigued as to why the film cuts - almost all on "Capone" and some on "Dangerous" are made with splices that fall beyond the edge of the frame. It's bizarre! I thought the c...

I got this in the sale too. Talk about dangerous driving in the titles! That Jag veers alarmingly across the chevrons of the motorway slip road and sweeps straight across into the outside lane!

Re: Network Sale 3rd to 16th of December
I hate it when that happens. I ordered a part for my car a while back and they left it on next door's driveway tucked under their car!!! If there's nobody in to accept it and none of the immediate neighbours are in or willing to take it in, they should damn well take it back to the depot for safe ke...

Re: Closedown, Late Call, Reflections and all that sort of t
I remember TSW having "Postscript" which was later re-branded as "Nightcall". Some local Reverend or mildly eccentric folk singer or some such, giving a thought for the day. In fact TSW continued to carry it, after the late news, right to the end. Surely one of the last ITV stations to still have th...

Re: Network Sale 3rd to 16th of December
Fairly impressive service from Network/Sony. Order placed on Sunday eve and arrived this morning. I'm unable to resist dipping all my new discs in the machine just to see te menus and watch the programme titles and stuff.
Volume 3 of Armchair Theatre is wonderful. Please let there be more volumes.

They might not have been actors but they were of a "Theatrical" persuasion. And ITN didn't exclusively use people with cast iron journalistic credentials as Newscasters. A number of ITN's newscasters were a bit Theatrical, Gordon Honeycombe springs to mind.

Me too, the phonetic pronunciation given by Mr Wolf seems rather Germanic compared to how I would say Mausoleum. But he knows best and in the context of this forum I shall say it like Anton Diffring :-)
