Re: Clive James 1939 - 2019

Sad News. His on-screen appearances, his programmes and especially his books about TV were all brilliant. RIP.

Re: Old habits die hard...

I had a video cassette player and a monitor in the early 90's (and no licence) as TV wasn't that great - but gave in to the norm.

BBC Red Button Text Service

According to a letter in the current Radio Times the BBC Red Button Text Service may close because of the internet. I still use it and would be sorry. You can put all your eggs in one basket, and if the one source of information isn't there ...

Re: "Dads Army" (and other TV production changes)

I saw the DA episode 'The Miser's Hoard' recently featuring John Laurie quite a bit and realized that there still one or two episodes of Dad's Army that I don't think I have ever seen. I have listened to all the Radio episodes. Feeling very lucky and high time I got a boxed set!

Russell T Davies is on next Sunday's Desert Island Disks and should be choosing a few he listens to, to get writing inspiration. Hope he talks quite a bit about his Doctor Who time; him writing for the ninth Doctor is already 15 years ago!

Outside Edge

I'm enjoying seeing further Outside Edge episodes on ITV3 just now; the cast is great and most of the escapades are a laugh.

It would be great to hear this - “The Goodies” humour applied to the modern world. I hope to get it sometime.

Just read the Sci-fi special and there were a lot of new mini-series and plays mentioned in the year-by-year feature; it'll be interesting to look them up. This is for me the most useful thing about getting the magazine. There can only be a few chosen for articles of course. Of one of those, the Sta...

Hoping to re-watch The Prisoner sometime soon I thought I'd watch the 'alternate' chimes of big ben episode first (one shown at a press conference back then). I really got into it and don't want to move on yet! No 6. and 'Leo McKern's No.2' aren't yet quite as desperate as they become. Alongside an ...

13 Minutes to the Moon

I always think of the date of Apollo 11 on the moon as the 21st July, the wee hours of the morning when the EVA started UK time and I woke up in front of the TV to amazing images) but it was the 20th in the US. I'm really looking forward to the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. Named after the climax t...

A line that deserved a laugh was Series 4 episode 5, Martin talking about rights of way and the footpath - Martin "Don't you see there's an important principle at stake here?" Hilda "Yes, self preservation" I also wondered if the man from the council could have turned out to be the Farmer! Great gro...

Years and Years. The first episode airs on BBC1 on May 14th (2019), it was announced at The BFI & Radio Times Television Festival last night. Irish News review
It should be a good drama and interesting later to see how much it predicted the actual future.
