Shane Rimmer (1929-2019)

I knew his voice in Thunderbirds before I saw him on TV where I remember him most in The Protectors episodes Vocal and Zeke's Blues. He had a long career as a fine actor. RIP.

Star Trek - Original NBC transmissions

I notice that on 10 occasions it was two weeks rather than one until the next episode of Star Trek (Original Series). I suspect the explanation lies in its production or could there have been other reasons? I don't think Christmas was a factor. In Season 1 it broadcast on a Thursday and in 2+3 moved...

Re: Book: I Am (Not) A Number

Having read the book (and while keeping an open mind about the author's opinions on the meaning of The Prisoner) the suggested episode viewing order is far more convincing than the original broadcast order in the UK (which the USA also used although omitting Living in Harmony ). In the introduction ...

Re: Greatest radio programmes

Good to see The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy listed and, as to be expected, quite a few that went to TV. Knowing Me Knowing You might have made the list? (on recently because of 'This Time'). Probably everybody has a few Radio 2 talk-ins favourites on a day to day basis - nowadays Ken Bruce and ...

I found out about an earlier Channel 4 programme, than Time Team, called 'Time Signs' from 1991 (with a narrator, Mick Aston and Phil Harding) and have been enjoying watching the four 25min episodes. Nice, slower!, introduction to Archaeology.

The Protectors Fan Fiction

Maxwell (a prequel to Quin) Quin, a hardened criminal and one of the most wanted men in Europe, has sent new recruit Maxwell to leave a small box of firearms in exchange for a bag of cash at a secret location. When he returns – there’s a problem. In the entrance room of an old tenement building, th...

Re: Dad's Army turns 50 years old today

I also watched 'Absent Friends' for maybe the second time last night and thought the writing was particularly good. Arthur Lowe and John Le Mesurier's make it look so easy, but it takes great acting to show how different Mainwaring and Sgt.Wilson are in such a funny way. I hope you like this one.

Re: Dad's Army turns 50 years old today

Watching 'The two and a half feathers' episode tonight I noticed that Jones's boy, Raimond, (who says a line) was credited and played by a John Ash. Thanks to the internet it's always interesting to see what else any actor has been in - a kind of voyage of discovery. 'A few other things at the time'...

New BBC Scotland Channel

Starting about 24th Feb 2019 and expected to take the place of BBC4 (which will move down the EPG) in the channel list in Scotland. It's Interesting that its described as featuring "repeats and archive programmes - about 50% of shows on the channel will be repeat material". I presume that BBC 1 Scot...

Cheers Didi. I often heard that HMV were good for obtaining discs a little early but, given their current circumstances, I don't imagine that will be the case now! Well they struggled on six years ago but I'm sorry to hear today that they are looking for a buyer again because of business rates and ...

Re: TV Years (New Mag)

Got it. ... A nice run down of the Xmas telly since 1960, and some of the best idents. Possibly because they didn't want to overdo the "Doctor Who" mentions, but the absence of the series in the best Xmas Annuals was odd, some great ones though especially Look-In. .. With the exception of 'A Questio...

Book: I Am (Not) A Number

Just got the "I Am (Not) A Number: Decoding The Prisoner" book (2017) by Alex Cox. I'm very interested in the author's belief that the episodes watched in their production order (rather than broadcast order) makes it all more understandable. Having watched it a couple of times I'm inspired to give t...

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

(unrelated thought ) The most frightening enemy of The Doctor, for me, was the original Cyberman. Seemingly human, yet machine the particularly slow unnatural intonation in their voice (especially Roy Skelton's) made them very sinister. After seeing them in The Tenth Planet on its original broadcas...

Part 2 arrived on 30th November and the accompanying Vortex pamphlet has a great four pages on it.

Re: Doctor Who Classic Series and DVDs

I've never seen Marco Polo but I thought the audio was riveting and well and truly worthy of the label classic. I never liked the Hartnel space stories, he seemed ill at ease with them and much more in his element with the historicals. Aside from the first Daleks story and the Master Plan, most of ...

I haven't heard the original theme tune very often since I watched in the late 60's and 1970's so I really enjoyed the start of the programme last night. I never knew it was from Johnny Dankworth. It's Raymond Baxter, James Burke and Judith Hann I remember presenting the show and enjoyed her recolle...
