No, but I was referring to the live films. The ones with that famous Belgian-Russian actor Gerard Depardieu as Obelix.robinsmith wrote:Surely you can't tell with a dubbed cartoon? Battle of the Planets was dubbed, wasn't it? (OK, but many prefer it's original Gatchaman incarnation.....)

Re: Rediffusion series' theme music
The only one I know is that "At last the 1948 show" used "Hurdy Gurdy Waltz" which Matthew Sharp found on vinyl, a record labeled "KPM 1008".

Re: Asterix - was there a tv series?
The more recent live action Asterix films in their English versions have dialogue written by Terry Jones - I've only seen "Asterix & Obelix take on Caesar" (I think it's called that) and there is certainly a Pythonesque fee to some of it. Some of the crowd scenes have some very funny stuff said in ...

Re: Asterix - was there a tv series?
There was also a live-action TV spinoff of the Asterix books in 1967. Deux Romains En Gaule is focused on two Romans rather than Asterix and Obelix themselves. Asterix and Obelix do make a cameo appearance, but animated in the same style as the two 60s cartoons. Goscinny and Uderzo make live-action...

Re: Frankie Howerd
I was very confused by that. Weren't the Arena rushes - which they closely resembled - screened on UK Arena in about 2001 as Frankly Frankie ? 47mins according to my notes though I haven't fished it out for comparison. I think it was November 1998. I've got it on the same tape as the four "Frankie'...

Re: Godfather Saga - long version in the right order...
This was both shown on TV and released on VHS - I do have a copy but I didn't watch it for many years. It just affects 1 and 2 afair, G3 is unaltered. I also liked it very much but I think Coppola came to prefer the original films so it was never released on DVD I think all the extra scenes are in ...

Re: (NEW) Yes, Minister (GOLD)
Was there a documentary type show too? I don't have access to that channel, but a few months ago I advised one of its researchers about some nice archive footage they could use. But despite promises I never heard back.
Ah, it seems there was: http://uktv.co.uk/gold/homepage/sid/9432

The TV version and a laserdisc version were also quite a bit longer, if wikipedia is to be believed.

Don't suppose anyone knows if they were aired that time with subtitle streams?

Re: Comedy Connections
Thanks. I have recordings of when they were first shown, but they might be updated. And I quite like the subtitle stream which can be useful sometimes.

Silly question but weren't a few of them repeated last year, or was I misinformed?

Re: Frankie Howerd
If you hover over the still, there's a note saying "Frankie Howard at ATV 1974".Aren't the cut-outs behind him unlike anything used in the BBC show? Lost Tapes has been uploaded on the usual site by its maker. Definitely an improvised look about it. Could it have been a guest spot or something? Yes,...

...the chap playing Marius (a Jonas brother?) is utterly dreadful. He was totally unconvincing as a singer, he had no vocal presence at all. Almost as if he had offended the audio technicians and they'd retaliated by making him sound totally unimpressive( something like this ). Perversely, on youtu...

It's all in my head but I am so used to the cast of the 10th anniversary, I fear I won't be able to stop comparing them.

Re: The Hobbit
Well, I'd expected worse. But still I wasn't quite satisfied with: - some of the clichés added, like the "drop your weapons or your friend gets it". - a few minutes of "Wildlife SOS" (about an ailing hedgehog) that the editor had accidentally pasted into the film - given that they're halfway through...

Re: Les Miserables
For me a sort of registration of a performance would have done nicely as well. It remainds to be seen. I have for example no idea if Hugh Jackman can sing.

Re: Frankie Howerd
My friend got annoyed with this, summing it up as 'We've found this really exciting rare footage...but we're going to waste 50 minutes telling you about his life instead of actually showing you any of it'. Is that accurate? So far I've only ever seen 1 show that just showed the rare footage as it w...

Re: The Black And White Minstrels
Even I knew it, too.
Well, it could be a very failed live performance, that's the only explanation I can think of that makes any sense.
But this has aired. So how was it (or: How bad was it)?

Re: Frustrating lost episodes story
Such a pity, it would've been headline news in the Netherlands, without any doubt. When I checked the forum again half an hour ago, I saw the poster had finally replied to my message. His story: he had recorded three complete episodes on a Philips EL-3400 (apparently an open reel recorder introduced...
