Re: PR: Classic Ghost Stories [bfi]

I'm reliably informed that this extra disc will make an appearance in my Christmas stocking. Looking at the list of non-James 'Spine Chillers' above I would love to see a full release of the series. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

I seem to remember she also had an OTT role in The Carpetbaggers. Had no idea she was still alive.

Re: An Age of Kings (BBC)

I haven't quite finished this set (Region 1) but it really is a superior piece of drama, as is The War of the Roses, which I watched a while back in a place we can't mention here. However The Spread of the Eagle is proving elusive - if it survives, perhaps the BBC might be persuaded to release it on...

Re: The Flipside Of Dominick Hide

It's easy to forget what a good actor Peter Firth was in his younger years, not just in this duo of plays but in some shorter plays (and the Double Deckers). The Dominick Hide plays, especially the first one, have stood up well over the years and I agree that Caroline Langrishe is also very good. I ...

It was very touching and David Bradley in particular was marvellous (but then I've never seen him give a bad performance). Good watch even for a casual Dr Who fan like me.

There was an American version of Hound of the Baskervilles with Stewart Granger which had a depiction of Baker Street that really was beyond belief!

Re: Monty Python reunion

I love the Pythons but I can't help seeing this an a cynical way for the guys to make money, especially as the show is in the O2, which is soulless enough for music, let alone comedy - I know many stand-ups do arena tours these days, but ... I also feel that any replacement for Graham wouldn't quite...

A very nice tribute, Simon. We should value people like Goddard more than we do, and TV should give directors the freedom to experiment and grow, but I'm not sure that happens anymore. I had no idea he was the same person who directed Madonna's awful film.

Supernatural at last! Robin Redbreast! Schacklen the Painter! Dead of Night!

Seen most of these on poor quality dubs but will be good to have proper BFI releases. Very nice surprise. Does the release of Robin Redbreast bode well for more Plays for Today (she says in hope)?

Yes, I agree with the article. Although BBC4 at least has tried to do 'documentary' some of the historical programming has been disappointing because of presenter/location overkill, dramatized bits illustrating what we are being told, or the worst trend, speculating on health issues with 21st centur...

Re: Ian Hendry Biography

Read this in one sitting today. Sterling work from Gabriel. And I even get a mention in the acknowledgements, which is nice.
