There's a really excellent nostalgic short colour film on YT, "Video Editing, BBC Training Film".
It's from the late 60's, and shows the editing of an edition of "Play School", all the more interesting by the fact, it's a missing edition!

Re: BBC Training film
Just in case anyone has trouble finding it, it's incorrectly titled "1970s" (despite showing a label on the tape saying "29/9/67").

Of course. the very very last thing that Playschool wanted to do in those days was edit. Cutting the tape would cost them a budget fortune they didn't have, so the services of Ron Bowman would have to require extremely exceptional circumstances. They were more likely to start again if something screwed up.
And two starts of a programme on the same tape required the VT TX people to read the logging card properly, which has been known not to happen.

That was excellent.
Watch out though, there are two versions. A full screen good-ish quality one and a version in a rectangular box over a patterned background (yuk!)
