Richard Rodney Bennett (1936-2012)

Post by Brock »

Surely the death of Sir Richard Rodney Bennett deserves a mention here? He wrote scores for film and television alongside his more "serious" concert works - in fact I was surprised to learn that he wrote the score for the Doctor Who story "The Aztecs". I shall always associate him with his marvellous score for "Murder on the Orient Express".

Yes indeed he wrote some delightful music for many different outlets. His music for "Billion Dollar Brain" is stunning.

His music for Joseph Losey's "Secret Ceremony" created an atmosphere which I don't think the film lived up to.

A great shame.

Responsible for some very fine music, and his Film and TV work is excellent.

Another mention for his superb scores for the "Who" serial, "The Aztecs", and "Murder On The Orient Express.

Just bought the BBC's Gormenghast which Bennett scored. Looking forward to it as I've not seen it since 2000 when it was first shown. Remember it being too short to do justice to the books but interesting to watch anyway.
