Charles Durning 1923-2012

Post by ctraynor »

He's done lots of TV according to his obits, even won a best supporting actor Golden Globe for The Kennedys of Massachusetts TV movie. I remember him, though, as the bent cop in The Sting who ushers Robert Shaw away at the end.

One amazing life, it looks like. He went in on D-Day and killed seven German gunners, according to the Times obit, and killed another German in hand to hand combat in the Battle of the Bulge. Was injured himself and needed support when he got back home.
