Michael O'Donnell (1928-2019)

Post by Nigel Stapley »

Doctor, author, editor, documentary maker, chairman of My Word! and the source of many wonderful anecdotes on Stop The Week.

Guardian obit

I think that - of the STW 'old stagers' - there are only Taylor, Leslie and Tucker left (although Matthew Parris appered frequently in the last couple of years or so of the programme, largely taking over Milton Shulman's rôle as resident contrarian).

Oh that's very sad news. I'm surprised there hasn't been an obituary on Radio 4 as I'm sure many listeners remember him well.

The people running R4 nowadays don't seem to be too bothered when it comes to the station's legacy. On top of which, it took the Graun nearly six weeks to publish an obit.

He was included in last week's edition of 'Last Word', the Radio 4 obituary programme: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0004635
