Sad News. His on-screen appearances, his programmes and especially his books about TV were all brilliant. RIP.

The earliest I remember was his scathing song about the Murdoch takeover of The Sun newspaper, well it was a NEWS paper before the takeover.

Another man of many parts. I particularly used to look forward to his end-of-year specials on BBC1 - New Year's Eve was never quite the same after they stopped!

A giant figure (at times literally). His television criticism for the Observer was not only pioneering but remains essential reading to this very day.
