Michael Angelis (1952-2020)

Post by David Boothroyd »

One of the Alan Bleasdale unofficial repertory company, with prominent roles in 'Boys from the Blackstuff' and 'G.B.H.', known to another generation for taking over from Ringo Starr as the narrator of Thomas the Tank Engine.

In 1972 he appeared in Thirty Minute Theatre 'Under the Age' (written by E.A. Whitehead, director Alan Clarke) in which he gave a very good and disturbing performance - especially when you realise that the bartender Susie is played by his younger brother Paul.

That's how I remember him. I was actually quite thrown when I originally heard the announcement that the Thomas the Tank Engine narrator had died, as I'm sure Ringo Starr is still alive...

RIP Michael, a versatile actor. Remember him very well from the lovely September Song. Only recently realised his brother was Paul Angelis, a familiar face from archive TV and film.
