I was too young to appreciate the design that had gone into the C4 logo, but the BBC2 ones were around the time I first got a VCR and began taping the various ITC series that were repeated on the channel

Those BBC2 idents were brilliant. I think it was the first time anyone had designed multiple versions of an ident for regular use on one station. Sometimes I'd look forward to the ident almost as much as the programme! I even heard it said that BBC2's viewing figures went up as a result, even though the programme content hadn't changed (but I may be repeating an urban myth).

I ought to make a confession - although I'd heard of the Lambie-Nairn agency, it wasn't until Martin Lambie-Nairn's death that I realized it was named after one person rather than two...

Obviously a huge talent, and one of the greats of TV design.

Very sad news.
