The forum is suddenly looking very different! Any reason why?

There is a very good reason, the software is being updated as it was on the equivalent of Philips N1500 video tape and close to all the oxide coming off the backing. After much gnashing of teeth I've brought it up to VHS, but there is still stuff to do.

I was thrown at first because I'm a contributor to another forum which uses an identical format. I almost posted something about the London Underground...

This style/theme is the default. While doing any upgrades you have to revert to defaults to avoid complications - there are enough of those even with running default settings.

I shouldn't really look for more forums to eat up my time, but LU is another interest of mine and I did the Euston hidden tour last week. I'd appreciate it if you could pm me a link to the forum so I can have a quick nose about.

Didn't realize there were so many Underground enthusiasts here! PMs sent as requested.

One member has written a book on the subject: London Underground at War, and a very good read it is to. Amazon tells me I bought it in 2014, so I really should dig it out and read again.

Good on you for attacking the dreaded upgrade; phpBB doesn't make it that easy to do so I usually leave it until my install has fallen over before being brave enough to overwrite folders and press proceed...

We seem to have lost the New Post tab, plus a few more, today which I used a lot. Is this coming back?

If you're logged in, click on "Quick Links" in the top left-hand corner of the screen and it gives you a menu which includes "New Posts" and several other useful links.

This is the latest forum software so it is what it is. There was a huge leap between the version we were running and this, so any incremental updates that would have introduced changes slowly, one by one, have all been done in one fell swoop.

I'll be honest, I've spent most of my week trying to get my head around the updating side, trying not to lose everything in the process, so the actual differences have passed me by. There is still more work to be done. Once that is out of the way, I can look at possible modifications if there are aspects that really don't work for us.

Thanks, that works fine.

The old Mausoleum site is still hanging in there, AFAICS very few bits have broken off ,
lost a lot of 'colourful' characters on that changeover but must have been a moderators' nightmare.

New site looks nice and fresh. Now that it takes two clicks instead of one to see new posts, I'm not sure it can really be classed as a "Quick Link"...

Just bookmark search.php?search_id=newposts :)
Thanks, but I was talking from a software design perspective.

Fair enough. I shall refrain from making helpful suggestions in future.

Wildly off-topic, but as there are enough LU enthusiasts here, I just thought I would post a photo of our Sons latest birthday cake - baked by my wife, iced by me. The sponge inside was supposed to be red and blue layers, but the blue food colouring was dismal, so it was red and yellow(ish).

What is the icon of a flame next to a topic supposed to indicate? I can't work it out.

I took it to mean it was a hot topic - so over a set number of posts in a set time, but that was just an assumption, I have no real idea.

I realise you may already be aware of this as you've said there's still plenty to do here, but it might have slipped under the radar as they're not that common ... I just wanted to note that on the new board, tables seem to be broken. It seems to process the table tag itself (i.e. it hides it) but all the row and cell tags appear along with the info in the table. For example: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3280&p=32415.

Thanks Simon. No, I hadn't spotted that. I will look into it, as it may be a glitch or something is no-longer supported.

Is the blue format, with phpBB at the top, the finished product, or do I need to update something at this end?

That's how it appears on the other phpBB forum I use, so I assume it's standard.

The blue colour and phpbb logo is the default theme (prosilver) for the software. Updating, certainly to the level we've had to carry out recently, requires defaults settings otherwise things can go horribly wrong. Normal service will be resumed, eventually.

There's still a button to insert the table tag itself when you're inputting / editing a post, but I'm not sure what you're supposed to do after that.

From a quick skim through the phpbb forum, it would appear that there is an extension that needs to be installed to handle tables. That does seem odd if table= is an option when posting. There is more to be done before I start installing extensions though.
