The Edward Woodward Hour [??]

Post by Razor Eddie »

This was announced as a planned release from Network back in 2011 but never appeared for reasons unknown.

I just found details of another version via NZ and Australian sites:

Anyone know if this is an error, legit release, or someone having a laugh?

He was a reasonable singer, wasn't he? I remember someone on Radio 2 (it may have been Sounds of the 60s) playing Who Were You With Last Night and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Pity this hour special has slipped off Network's radar.

A lot of people commented online - myself included - that this was an odd choice for a standalone release and would be better as an extra on a box-set. Also, someone said the VHS copy they would be using was inferior to a version available elsewhere. I'm not sure if either of these things affected Network's decision.

Woodward wasn't a great singer but could certainly carry a tune. Quite a few of his numbers - including my favourite: Carry On London - can be heard on YouTube.

His first LP, 'This Man Alone' is lovely - two sides of misery and melancholy, plus the Callan theme with lyrics (by Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre's dad), and a rare early Elton John composition. Worth tracking down!

Isn't the will hay film "Where's That Fire?" a bootleg that someone has designed to look like a legit Australian Release to disguise it's real status - this could well be the same

This episode does turn up on the 'This Man Alone' special release.

Can anyone confirm that the Danish singer 'Nina' who appears in the show is Nina van Pallandt?
