The Kids From 47A

Post by solidgold25 »

I'm enjoying the first series of THE KIDS FROM 47A which is now out on DVD. Does anyone know what happened to the young actress who played Ginny Gathercole (Gaynor Hodgson)? iMdb doesn't have her appearing in anything else after this ended - did she continue acting for a career? I love watching her onscreen, she's like a female John Cleese at times. She did lots of programmes before 47A but in 1974 just seemed to stop.

There's one further credit, again as Binny Gathercole - in an ATV Comedy Premiere play called "Home Sweet Home".

Shown 31/08/1975, the play "takes the story of ATV's children's serial The Kids of 47A. a few years forward", to quote Television Today.

This production aside, I have no idea what Gaynor Hodson did post 47A.

I see that the opening credits of 'Kinderen van 47A' is on a popular website-with the on-screen title in English-so it got around.

Thanks Simon, this follow-on ATV play also has the rest of the 47A cast in it so hopefully it survives and Network can include this as an extra on a future DVD release (hopefully they'll release all the epiosdes series by series and not leave me hanging in mid-air!). I can't seem to find Home Sweet Home on iMdb but the BFI has these details for it:-

This was broadcast on 31st August 1975, ten months after the third and final series ended. Incidently, the theme music to 'Kids From 47A' is a 1971 track by Willi Andrea called "Flatrock" - you can hear this original stereo recording on Spotify.

She doesn't appear in Spotlight, the casting directories for which I have editions covering 1966, 1969, 1973, 1975 and 1978. It's possible, even though she would have had an equity card, that she didn't act full time nor desired to?
