I see Lord Tramp is on just before this too - not that I recall anything about it, but the cast looks good (Alfie Bass, Leslie Dwyer and Jack Watling)

Your dates are, as I'm sure you know, for the ITV network (or most of the network). When Southern first showed it themselves, between 18.05.1976 and 13.07.1976, it appears to have run for nine consecutive weeks - and hence for two extra editions. I guess we'll soon see what's what.

Here are lists for most of series 3 and 4 which I'd already put together for something else. I imagine one of two of them are a few names short.

20/09/1978 Roy Castle, Henry Cooper, Colin Crompton, Clement Freud, Alfred Marks, Marjorie Proops, Joan Turner, Max Wall (early lives).
27/09/1978 Castle, Cooper, Freud, Marks, Jack Parnell, Proops, Turner (families and friends).
18/10/1978 Castle, Cooper, Crompton, Freud, Green, Proops, Terry Scott, Turner (careers).
25/10/1978 Kenneth Williams, Crompton, Billy Dainty, Freud, Green, Yootha Joyce, Parnell, Leslie Phillips.
15/11/1978 Wall, Liza Goddard, Green, Joyce, Bernard Manning, Marks, Phillips, Scott (starting in showbusiness).
22/11/1978 Castle, Crompton, Freud, Humphrey Lyttelton, Marks, Parnell, Williams.
29/11/1978 Dainty, Clive Dunn, Goddard, Joyce, Manning, Parnell, Mike Reid.
06/12/1978 Cooper, Goddard, Joyce, Lyttelton, Marks, Reid, Scott, Turner, Wall.
13/12/1978 Crompton, Dunn, Goddard, Green, Lyttelton, Phillips, Proops, Reid, Scott, Wall.
20/12/1978
10/01/1979 Castle, Dainty, Lyttelton, Manning, Marks, Phillips, Proops, Scott, Turner (careers).
17/01/1979 Dainty, Dunn, Freud, Green, Lyttelton, Phillips, Scott.
24/01/1979 Castle, Dainty, Dunn, Green, Phillips, Lyttelton, Manning, Williams.

03/06/1980
10/06/1980 Acker Bilk, Miriam Karlin, Peggy Mount, Tom O'Connor.
17/06/1980 Charlie Drake, Fred Emney, Roy Kinnear, Cardew Robinson, Norman Wisdom (serving king and country).
24/06/1980 Derek Batey, Cliff Michelmore, Drake, Robinson, Percy Edwards, Emney, Dave Lee Travis (shaggy dog stories).
01/07/1980 Batey, Dickie Henderson, Vince Hill, Moira Lister, Mount, O'Connor, Sylvia Syms, Wisdom (the day the made their first break, and the days they didn't).
08/07/1980 Bilk, Leslie Crowther, Roger de Courcey, Edwards, Hill, Karlin, Kinnear, Robinson, Syms, Tommy Trinder (digs).
15/07/1980 Bilk, O'Connor, Sydney Tafler, Travis, Wisdom (the days they made their first break, and the days they didn't).
22/07/1980 Henderson, John Junkin, Kinnear, Lister, Michelmore, Mount, O'Connor, Tafler (favourite showbusiness personalities).
29/07/1980 Emney, Hill, Junkin, Lister, Michelmore, Travis, Trinder (rubbing shoulders with royalty).
05/08/1980 Crowther, Drake, Karlin, Michelmore, Travis (alright on the night?).
12/08/1980 Edwards, John Junkin, Kinnear, Lister, Robinson, Syms, Tafler, Wisdom (never seen on the screen).
19/08/1980 Batey, de Courcey, Edwards, Emney, Henderson, Junkin, Lister, Michelmore, Mount, Robinson, Tafler, Trinder (recognition).
26/08/1980 Bilk, Drake, Travis, Batey, Henderson, Emney, Crowther, de Courcey, Trinder (spare time).

Thanks Simon - I had a suspicion that It might have started on Southern earlier than the network, but cursory glances couldn't find it in the "other regions" sections.

Renown's catalogue offers 44 editions, the (almost) networked editions tot up to 42 so it does look like a couple from the first series were only seen by Southern back in 1976.

Here's my listing for the third series, which can add one or two snippets...

series three

17; 20-09-78 Roy Castle, Henry Cooper, Colin Crompton, Clement Freud, Alfred Marks, Marjorie Proops, Joan Turner, Max Wall
18; 27-09-78 Castle, Cooper, Freud, Marks, Jack Parnell, Proops, Turner (families and friends)
19; 18-10-78 Castle, Vooper, Crompton, Freud, Hughie Green, Proops, Terry Scott, Turner (careers)
20; 25-10-78 Compton, Billy Dainty, Freud, Green, Yootha Joyce, Parnell, Leslie Phillips, Kenneth Williams
21; 15-11-78 Liza Goddard, Green, Joyce, Bernard Manning, Marks, Phillips, Scott, Wall (starting in showbusiness)
22; 22-11-78 Castle, Crompton, Freud, Humphrey Lyttleton, Marks, Parnell, Williams (life on tour)
23; 29-11-78 Dainty, Clive Dunn, Goddard, Joyce, Manning, Parnell, Mike Reid
24: 6-12-78 Cooper, Goddard, Joyce, Lyttleton, Marks, Reid, Scott, Turner, Wall (early lives)
25; 13-12-78 Crompton, Dunn, Goddard, Green, Lyttleton, Phillips, Proops, Reid, Scott, Wall
26; 20-12-78 TVT not published
27; 10-01-79 Castle, Dainty, Lyttleton, Manning, Marks, Phillips, Proops, Scott, Turner (careers)
28; 17-01-79 Dainty, Dunn, Freud, Green, Lyttleton, Phillips, Scott
29; 24-01-79 Castle, Dainty, Dunn, Green, Phillips, Lyttleton,mManning, Williams (on tour)

no programmes 4-10-78, 11-10-78, 1-11-78, 8-11-78, 27-12-78, 3-01-79

Today's looks likely to one of them - "Disasters", with Askey, Cribbins, Dors, Jewel, Maynard, Ray, Windsor.

That's interesting, so it looks as though the "networked" editions comprised the first seven - I did wonder whether they might either have cherry-picked the best seven, if there was such a thing, or - and this seemed unlikely, but you never know - whether the two gaps in the network tx were where the missing editions should have been.

Hmm, just watching this now. Interesting show but the technical quality is appalling. Looks like VT but pic is massively compressed and deinterlaced. Hope they haven't been digitally remastered like this.

Quite possibly they've just been captured into the playout system at a very low quality level to save space.

Everything on Talking Pictures looks awful in varying degrees - it bizarre that Renown think they can flog their dvd catalogue of the back of such blurry, crushed, substandard transmissions.

Can anyone confirm whether these shows are now being shown in a loop or are they still broadcasting "new" editions? Its just a friend is recording them for me (I cant get Sky) and as he lives about 50 miles away I haven't been able to check. If they are in a loop, can anyone say how many editions were broadcast before reverting to loop?

Thanks

Yes, the eighth episode, (the seventh that ITV networked), was on yesterday and the ninth and final episode, (not networked, with Askey, Cribbins, Jewel, Logan, Maynard, Pertwee and Windsor), was today's. It was comprised on miscellaneous stories, with no overall theme, (and with no drawn opening caption to illustrate the ((non)) topic either.).

Really been enjoying this series, so I dropped TPTV a line to see if they were ever likely to stop looping series one and two, and move onto series three. A nice lady called Sarah came back to me almost immediately and said that series three is scheduled for November and December - good news, let's hope it's true!

Oh dear. Talking Pictures TV has been hauled over the coals by OFCOM (pages 7-11) for broadcasting an episode of 'Tell me another' in which Joan Turner recounted an anecdote from 1937 involving a racist term.

And your link goes on to say that the episode is being withdrawn from all future transmission by TPTV as a result.
Shame, another one lost to modern sensitivities. Glad I saw it before it was sent to Coventry!

Looking through this series - episode 41 is listed as starring Dave Lee Travis and was broadcast on 1 Aug 2016 and 15 Sept 2016.

Was he cut out?

Also, recent and current episodes seem to be compilation episodes - I guess edited by Talking Pictures.
