New agreement between Network and the BBC
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
It is as long as it doesn't price out niche releases.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
No reason why it should do - subtitling is nothing like as expensive as some like to suggest. And indeed, if a release is truly niche that's all the more reason why the single and only time it is ever likely to be released, should be in a form which everyone can enjoy. (Which would, after all, also translate into a modest extra number of sales, too.)Ross wrote:It is as long as it doesn't price out niche releases.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
One release that would be welcomed all over would be the series Shoulder to Shoulder......after the film Suffragette and the very successful BFI compilation of archive footage, it would do very well.....
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Top of my list, is still "Mogul/Troubleshooters" and "Doctor At the Top".
Although, complete sets of "Goodies" and "Sykes" would be great.
Can we hope for some obscure ones..?....like "Outa Space!" and "Ed and Zed", with surviving editions of "Zokko!" added.
As grateful as I am for the Simply releases, it's a shame Network didn't do "Warship", as they would have included the behind the scenes feature from "Blue Peter" (I doubt Simply will be doing).
Great news about the deal, anyway.

What about Blue Peter? I could watch that all day.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Seems to be two episodes and a bit that are known to survive...I used to watch it,sometimes.Mark wrote: with surviving editions of "Zokko!" added.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Yes, definitely "Blue Peter", that would be great, I remember when UK Gold screened some on Sundays.Andrew wrote:What about Blue Peter? I could watch that all day.
A compilation of "Bleep And Booster" serials would be very welcome as well ( two were released by Watershed on VHS, years ago).
Also "Swap Shop" would be nice, "Captain Zep" and "Rentaghost".

Loved it, thought it was a great show, the first series was the best, though.JWG wrote:Seems to be two episodes and a bit that are known to survive...I used to watch it,sometimes.Mark wrote: with surviving editions of "Zokko!" added.
The serial, "Skayn" was really good, drawings with Actors doing the VO's.

Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Does anyone know whether the 1975 series Striker still exists and if so could it fall within this agreement as a possible release?
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Striker exists in its entirety. I'd buy it.

Shame they couldn't finish off the Studio Canal/ABC material first! Dial 999, The pursuers, Man from interpol etc!
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
I'll take Dial 999. Does it all survive? Shot on 35mm for possible transatlantic sales. Ought to clean up well.

Absolutely!
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Shoulder To Shoulder is absolutely magnificent, caught up with the whole series a couple of years ago and it is definitely a must-watch, beautifully written and performed.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
It's been nearly a year since Network made the announcement about this BBC deal and at last Rockliffe's Babies looks set to appear. Amazon have it listed for for a May release.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
I love you, Michael. Have a cookie. ;)
Although you'll have to give it back if the release ends up getting delayed!

Many thanks for the nod. Fingers crossed.Michael wrote:It's been nearly a year since Network made the announcement about this BBC deal and at last Rockliffe's Babies looks set to appear. Amazon have it listed for for a May release.
I had been relying on BBC Store to get there first along with Shoestring series 2.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Titles have been appearing since that announcement, though, e.g.:
- Sink or Swim: The Complete Series
- The Life and Times of David Lloyd George
- All Passion Spent: The Complete Series
- Till Death Us Do Part
- Absolute Power: The Complete Series

I'm on a diet but thanks anyway.Mickey wrote:I love you, Michael. Have a cookie. ;)

Even if it did get delayed, I could live with that. I'm just glad it's finally on the radar at all.

Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Never mind all those other titles, we want SHOESTRING and THE GOODIES! Now!
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Charge 200 quid a set if you want Network - there's a contingent who'll pay it, for a release with a few extras. Patrick Mower and Brendan Price interview, Phillip Hinchcliffe interview, David Wickes, Bob Baker/Dave Martin.... C'mon..
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
Did anyone ever get to the bottom of how the guy selling White horses dvds got hold of the English audio tapes?Andrew wrote:No the BBC don't have them.
The quality of the audio was quite impressive (as I obtained a copy of his dvd and demuxed the audio to my archive, but it could be further improved with a professional release. I don't know how on earth he got hold of them but I'm glad he did.
.
I agreed with you from the first about the danger, but now I think you're utterly mistaken.
Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
I would still love to know how the reel tapes were discovered. The PayPal name is Mark
If the owner reads this site please enlighten us.
Also the copies could be restored to a better quality.
On watching agsin some of the voices are over modulated
I've copied the episodes from the dvd he offers to my Sony mobile and enjoy watching them this way. When I turn on the Dynamic normaliser it improves the voices immediately, so perhaps software exists to make this a permanent feature for the dvd.

Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
I had assumed ( rightly or wrongly) that the sound tapes were off-airs, although why would one be missing?

Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
The recordings are off air and include the BBC announcer on some, which is nice to have. I reckon the soundtrack was recorded by some form of hand held mic as occasionally you can hear a plane in the background. This could mean the person lived near an airport.
Suspicion falls on Andrej is the missing episode perhaps a failed recording. It is a mystery as to who taped these and who recovered them.

Re: New agreement between Network and the BBC
I'm guessing they may have come from the 1978 repeat ( that's the last one, I think), if it had ben the 77 one, whoever recorded it would have had another chance to get the missing one.
