"The Avengers" missing episode found (+ other TV gems)

Post by Mark »

It's been announced that the missing "Avengers" episode, "Tunnel of Fear" has been found.

Glad to see any "Avengers" episode back, but that's the one I hoped would turn up, the most!

Brilliant news!

Great! I had heard that one was around, though I didn't know which, but wouldn't say anything until negotiations had been completed.

Sounds wonderful. Hopefully it can eventually be made available - I've long wanted to see more of the first series, which always seemed much more to my taste that what was to follow.

Does anybody know the source of this find, and does it have anything to do with the activities of Phillip Morris?

Just seen it noted as from a private collector who had an unplayed print.

Yes, it's great to see (if not surprising) that collectors still turn up with material.

There is supposed to be another announcement tonight (and every night this week) of further Archive TV finds from another collection, very exciting.!

I'm sure that many as well as myself are desperately hoping for some Dr. Who to turn up in this round of recoveries.

Well, TALK TO ME was the first episode to be recorded, (going out fifth), but it wasn't a "pilot".

To be fair, Dr. Who has had quite a success rate as far as recoveries go. I'd hope for something we really don't have any of.
'TRITON', anybody?

It's an episode of "Here's Harry" tonight, "The Musician" , 22/11/63, a somewhat significant date.

Would love a DVD release of this series.

"Hugh And I"...tonight...the episode "Beau Jesters" 13/12/66.

Once again, the DVD is out!

Great show though, and great news.

(I was only thinking last night, wouldn't it be great if an episode of "The Gnomes Of Dulwich" turned up, right stars, wrong show...still, here's hoping).

"The World Of Wooster", this time, "Jeeves and the Great Sermon Handicap", 13/6/65.

That's three episodes of this series existing.

I taped one of the others, when it was shown on BBC2, back in the early 80's, can't remember why it was shown now though.

Two, you mean, the other one being "The Delayed Exit...".
The Indian Summer is not complete. There's also a fragment of a Blandings episode. No audio-only is known (to me) either.

THE DELAYED EXIT OF CLAUDE AND EUSTACE - though it was BBC1 in 1982 for the 60th anniversary of the BBC.

It got another outing on BBC4 in 2002.

Is it not complete?, no mention of that in the KAL guide.

BBC1...was it?...ah right, such a long time ago, that was the one I taped, although I had completely forgotten about the BBC4 showing.

In case anyone missed it, there was a clip from 'Tunnel of Fear' on Wednesday's Newsnight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGxRBOjfZCc

The "Newsnight" feature was very good, nice to see Chris Perry, Dick Fiddy and Sir Tim Beddows (Well he should be.!).

The clip from "Tunnel Of Fear", shows what a great episode it is, Patrick Macnee on superb form.

That episode turning up from a collector bodes well for others potentially surviving from series 1.

As with the other episodes, "The Frighteners" survived in the archive, and the best theory as to why the "Hot Snow" segment and "Girl On A Trapeze" were in the UCLA, was because they were copies to showcase Ian Hendry in the US.

With three more "Whacko" episodes having turned up, together with the existing material, it would make a great DVD, would love to see that... from Network or Simply.

Latest announcement from KAl.

Amongst the tapes located featuring "Sez Les" studio recordings ( as featured in the two-part doc, the other night) is the studio recording for the "Jokers WIld" segment of the 1970 "All Star Comedy Carnival".

Another one after the DVD release, but a great find nonetheless ( I have always liked the "Comedy Carnival" shows.

Although it could be put on the contemporary Jokers Wild release, should Network re-start that particular strand.

I would love to see more of those, especially for the entertaining banter between Les Dawson and Ray Martine, but I don't think they can do full series, that's for sure.

I think the BFI have some extra studio material for "The Fenn St Gang" segment from the 1972 "ASCC" edition, as well.
