Audio Recordings of Missing Eps: Ace of Wands, AAL & Others

Post by cdnbob »

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before on the forum, but can anyone tell me if audio recordings (akin to the audio recordings for missing Who episodes) are in existence for the missing episodes from:
  • Ace of Wands
  • Adam Adamant Lives!
  • Doomwatch
Also, how would I go about getting copies of the scripts for those particular series missing episodes?

Thanks. :)

There are audios for "Ace Of Wands" for "Seven Serpents", "NIghtmare Gas" and some of "The Eye of Ra", with surviving scripts on the DVD.

Also scripts for "AAL" on that series DVD.

There was a scriptbook for "Doomwatch", but its not available now, one script is in the book about Kit Pedler.

Thanks for the info Mark. I'll check my DVDs.

Cheers for that too. Was this a professional or fan-made release?

It's from Miwk Publishing, as is the Kit Pedler one.

The Kit Pedlar book features "Survival Code", and there is a fan audio recreation on YT.

The first two episodes of "NIghtmare Gas" are on YT, as well.

It's worth checking out the "Doomwatch" audio play on YT, as it's quite good.

Wipednews, the blog, has some audio of Ace of wands on their video channel.

Yes, it's the first two episodes of "Nightmare Gas", I mentioned, the quality is not great, but you can make out most of it.

I seem to recall that the audio fragment on the Adam Adamant DVD is of a flashback scene to the first episode and thus, sadly, rather redundant.

Yes, it's from "A Slight Case Of Reincarnation".

By the way, re-reading my first post, I should point out that the audios for "AOW" are not on the "AOW" DVD, just the surviving scripts, which are:

"One And One and One Are Four" (Part 2)
"The Smile" 1-4 + Camera Script of 3-4
"Seven Serpents Sulphur And Salt" 1-3
"Joker" 1-3

All season 3

The scripts in the "Doomwatch" script book are:

"Spectre at The Feast"
"Fire and Brimstone"
"High Mountain"
"Say Knife, Fat Man"
"Deadly Dangerous Tomorrow"
"Flood"

"High Mountain" is represented by both Rehearsal and Camera Scripts.

"Survival Code" ( in the Kit Pedler book).

Thanks for all the info all. Much appreciated. One more question... can copies of scripts - where they exist - be purchased (for research)?

Don't think so, at least I've not heard of it happening.

The best bet is still the growing number of books and PDF's on DVD's and CD's, of many TV series now.

Also, there's the scripts for all the missing "Doctor Who" episodes, on the various Lost episodes CD box sets.

You can read the script for "The Avengers" episode "A Change Of Bait", on the 'Mrs Peel we're needed' site, along with the scripts for the existing episodes, "Death Of A Batman", "The Girl From Auntie" and "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Station".

Some 1948 Show scripts and a few Do not adjust your set scripts are also known.

The BFI has scripts as well, but I can't find an example of a lost episode. Ah wait: "How to be an alien" (1964). Does this link work? http://collections-search.bfi.org.uk/we ... /110043805

Again, many thanks for all the info, tips and pointers all. Much appreciated. Having been a member of this forum for years, I know whenever I have a TV related question that someone on this very forum will have an answer for me. :-)

Info on the existence of all of series 1 is still a bit fuzzy isn't it?...and many of the others are German soundtrack only.

I only have the Acorn set at the mo.!

BBC Written Archives hold copies of the PAUL TEMPLE television scripts, (though not all of the radio ones).

The first series is completely missing from both UK and German archives. The final five episodes could be reconstructed from the BBC's b/w TRs and the German colour films - though at least one of the former has already been colour-recovered.

I offered Simply a lot of original DR. FINLAY'S CASEBOOK scripts for use on it's releases, but...

Oh yes...I was thinking of Taurus, but that was after series 1.

Shame about the scripts, but as good as Simply is, their budgets mean bare bones releases.

On the subject of Script books, there is vol 1 of "All Gas And Gaiters" missing episodes, which is worth picking up, great scripts from a very funny series ( no sign of vol 2 though).

Also the two books from Kaleidescope, on "Sexton Blake" are very good, the main book goes through all the different forms of Blake, and includes a sizeable chapter on the excellent missing ITV series ( only one episode survives) it also features all the TV Times billings plus newspaper cuttings from Payne's scrapbook collection.

The book concludes with the full camera script to the one hour Christmas Day special 1967 ( which I remember.!), "The Vanishing Snowman".

The companion book, contains 8 further scripts, including a complete 4-parter, lovely stuff indeed.

There are also script books on non missing series of course ( some no longer available) such as "Dad's Army", "Porridge", "Black Adder", "Fawlty Towers", "Father Ted" and "UFO".
