Avengers Hendry/Rollason/Blackman/Stevens

Post by Baron Bill »

According to my Freeview EPG, True Entertainment is going to start showing the very earliest Avengers telerecordings starting tomorrow Monday April 3rd at 8pm. Monday and Tuesday are the two surviving complete episodes with Ian Hendry and Wednesday to Friday has the first three episodes of series 2 featuring Jon Rollason as Patrick Macnee's sidekick. Hopefully, we can then expect Honor Blackman's debut in the next episode and Julie Stevens appearing later on.

On all five nights, The Avengers will be followed by two episodes of The Man from Uncle. They're showing episodes from season 2 but not necessarily in the right order.

No...looks like Baron Bill is right ( thanks for the info), just had a look and it's on.

Not surprisingly, "Tunnel Of Fear" is not available, but with "Avengers", "UNCLE" and Talking Pictures TV showing "Freewheelers" at 6pm...what a night of great TV.!

True Entertainment is living up to it's name.

Thanks, i've set my sky box to record, still got to see the remaining 2 episodes of The prisoner, will take a look at Freewheelers but never really enjoyed it as a youngster, now if they would show Orlando starring Sam Kydd or sexton blake, i would be pleased.

So would I, but as there is only one episode of "Sexton Blake" and a handful of "Orlando", around, not much chance, sadly.

Great to see so much classic TV on one night, though, almost like the heady days of UK Gold/GPlus and Bravo.

Out of interest, will they have HoH subtitles? Some of the older episodes don't have the best audio quality.

There weren't any on The Avengers yesterday.

I thought it had been decided that threads like this were to be placed in the "Current tv" area as they are "currently on the box"...
Or maybe a new section: "Archive shows currently on the box" or some such...

No, I think it's okay, 'Current TV', is generally that, new shows.

Nice to see the ABC logos at the start and end and also the break bumpers.

In case it's of interest... here's a piece by Toby Miller (author of the BFI book on "The Avengers") to mark the loss of Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg and to emphasize the influence of their characters in global culture:

All the best

Pity that the article is completely spoiled by unnecessarily bringing up his personal politics. It’s not the place for it.

Summary of article....

Whohay! you had the Avengers, but you were the world's shithole where you would cry into your tea everyday about loss of empire and you will be an even bigger shithole now that you have left the EU.

It's a lousy piece, certainly.

As soon as I hear an American reviewing anything quintessentially British, I know what to expect.

It was almost like the two Actress's were just an excuse to have a bit of a rant at the UK!

It was a bit odd!
