Paul Of Tarsus - BBCtv 1960

Post by Focus II »

Only recently learned about this 10 part series starring Patrick Troughton which reportedly survives intact.

Yet it seems there's no plans to issue it on DVD.

Hopefully the powers that be from the BBC/2 Entertain will reconsider. I assume they look at this forum?

I think that’s one very optimistic assumption!

A follow-up to the also extant 1956 JESUS OF NAZARETH - and both written and produced by Joy Harrington, laterly Eric Sykes' television neighbour.

There's clip from one episode of PAUL on one of the DW dvds.

Yeah, you're probably right unfortunately but seeing there's Patrick Troughton in the starring role gives it a better chance of a DVD release.

Or at least I'd like to think so....

Such highbrow stuff wouldn't be quickly junked! (Rather like An age of Kings.)

Both blogs that come up in google have comments of people claiming to have some of the footage. Victor Pemberton's claim may be genuine; sadly he's now deceased. Wonder what happened to the footage.

Edit: Apparently that will eventually go to Kaleidoscope, if nothing goes wrong. So *possibly* there will be some colour, on-location footage too.

There's a clip on YouTube where Ann Widdecombe talks to Brian Conley about this series. It features a few snippets from it.

There's also a clip from it, on the "Who" DVD, "Frontier In Space", in the Roger Delgado tribute, as he appears in it.

Simply has released a number of 60's serials, so there's always the chance it could get a release some time.
