What happened with this reboot? Was it shelved?

As far as I know, yes.

Nobody picked it up- ITV are currently attempting to put together a new version, with a new script and new Saint.

Watching the B&W Roger Moore series it's striking how close they are to the books. It wouldn't be the same series without all the "old boys" and references to the "ungodly." I can't see it working in the modern world. What would be good would be a 1930s style series.

One lovely touch - after a few episodes beginning with titles saying "Rome", "Beunos Aires" comes one with the title "Stevenage".
It's refreshing to have stories in very down to earth places.

Roger Moore is, by the way, an excellent actor. As Roy Ward Baker points out in his "Director's Cut" it's the way he listens to the other actors. And he keeps up his enthusiasm for what seems to have been years of filming with very few breaks.

It might work to do a direct to dvd release so that fans get a chance to see it. It would be a shame for it to gather dust after it was produced and filmed.

The pilot cost too much to make to sit on the shelf. You will get to see it, but how and when will only be decided once we know if the ITV plans are going to go ahead.

Thanks, Ian. Appreciate your input. It would be nice to see the pilot at some time, so here's hoping.

Only topped by the similarly styled Man In A Suitcase episode Web With Four Spiders which opens with the title location "Salford"!
