The most pointless person on television.

Post by SgtPepper »

Has to be Emma Kenny. Appears regularly on several channels in documentaries mainly about crime. Allegedly a criminal psychologist, she never says anything other than stating the obvious or a load of pretentious babble.

Beware of self-confessed expert commentators! Sorry Dan Cruickshank, but I often don't believe you either.

I have to admit this was rather a pointless thread, but I was watching a documentary and this so called psychologist turned up yet again and said something like "When someone you've known for 20 years cheats you out of a large sum of money that's going to be very hurtful."
You don't say.

Dare I mention the sacred cow Dr Brian Cox?

..Takes a film unit to South America, climbs up a mountain looks up at the sky and says "wow! we are stardust"

I'm probably the only one who had to Google those names in order to have any idea what you were talking about. :-)

Please do. I find him unwatchable. Is he really an "expert"? He comes across as someone who has just smoked a joint and is looking through a kaleidescope. And as for his image as "eye candy" with a swooning female audience, I can only imagine that this is some kind of tabloid construct. Sorry Doc Cox, but I want my experts to look and sound like David Attenborough or Alec Clifton-Taylor, but then I'm an old fart myself.

Cox is of course a completely legitimate academic. I severely doubt those sorts of programmes would be made without him. Sure it's very popular science but why not?

I don't like Cox's presentation style, but as Duncan says his academic qualifications are excellent. He's very much an active researcher in the Particle Physics group at Manchester University (http://www.manchester.ac.uk/research/br ... blications) and he's recently been made a Fellow of the Royal Society.
