Inside No. 9 - The Devil of Christmas

I did like this. They went for that 1970's TV feel. Apparently they employed old equipment and retired camera operators to get that vintage feel.

It went out on 27th December and is up on Iplayer for the next 21 days.

Yes I agree. Take out the comedy element it wasnt too far off being an excellent Ghost story for Christmas, sadly lacking at the BBC now for the past three years : (

Don't know if any of you saw a notorious video nasty back in the early '80s, originally called "slaughter" by michael findlay, then recut and retitled "snuff" featuring an actress being killed for real by alan shackleton who had bought the rights to this piece of crap, but the memories of that came flooding back when i saw this.the final scenes in the original nearly made me sick. iirc it was supposed to be based on the manson killings and the actors and actresses were never seen or heard from again, at least that was true.

"True", as in "not-true-at-all" then?

Or did you mean the onscreen talent was so dreadful they genuinely weren't used again for another production?

:)

I'm not at all sure that Dave Bowden and Dave Whittaker (don't know the third) would regard themselves as retired. Old enough to know how to work on multi camera drama certainly. A disappearing skill, though still endlessly useful if only there were the directors - ones who don't regard themselves as Hollywood superstars in waiting.

I was disappointed in this, actually. I felt it was stretched out far too long, running on the spot until the twist at the end. And the clunkiness I thought was a bit overdone.

Lovely to see 70s VT being used though. Shame the countdown clock wasn't equally authentic!

On bbc2, can't believe this series of excellent little dramas hasn't had more mentions here in the forum, who needs the "nightly show" when this goes out at 10.00pm, fresh and original ideas really well done,a joy to watch. In my opinion better suited to a peak time slot on bbc1. love it.

We accidentally started watching the Cold Comfort episode last night. I was about to go and do something else but we got hooked on it. Very nicely done dark comedy. Will have to catch the earlier episodes now :)
