A major drama for the winter season pulled after the Radio Times went to press.. anyone any thoughts on what’s going on?

Apparently there's a related court case in progress. I think it's the one mentioned here:

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/201 ... ian-reader

and the related confiscation hearing isn't due to take place until January 2018.

It seems likely that either the legal advice changed, and it was decided late on that the drama would in fact be prejudicial, or for some reason the court case was overlooked and only spotted at the last minute.

It was pulled very late indeed. They were already running prominent trailers for it on ITV, as well as the series featuring on the covers of various magazines.

I expect it won't be shown now until Spring at the earliest.

Thanks John, interesting. Hard to imagine how this happened so late in the day!

Something similar happened to Alan Bleasedale's splendid GBH, I recall.
Entirely by coincidence, the name 'Hatton' appeared on that occasion, too.

Did it? I thought DH was very easy about GBH, he just insisted whoever played him was good-looking.

DH appeared on "Right to Reply" insisting that it was about him. The clip is on the usual video-sharing site. However, it says more about the limitless ego of DH than anything else.

I wonder if his reaction to Robert Lindsay's casting on record?!

As I recall, G.B.H. wasn't delayed per se, but there was a lot of press coverage about it quite some time before it was eventually screened.

I had formed the impression that the transmission of GBH was considered inadvisable on legal grounds while the Hatton case was pending.
Probably something I gained from reading 'newspapers'.

The series was shown in 1991, some five yaers after Hatton was expelled from teh Labour party. Hatton wasn't in court for corruption - and subsequently found not guilty - until 1993.

Looks like I imagined it all, then.
Strange thing, the mind.
