Good story, that's the power of TV!

Or was, anyway. I don't see that happening today; with so many channels and other sources to choose from. It's harder for anything to become a common denominator now, if it's not a sport.

Robert Bathurst certainly has Wilson's natural urbanity.

Not sure about Tom Rosenthal. He's the same age as Ian Lavender was when he stopped playing Pike, but you'd got used to him by then, at least he started young.

I can't say that I think that Rosenthal looks especially young for his age, perhaps he's just good at acting it.

As I posted a while ago I quite fancied Bernard Cribbins as Jones rather than Godfrey but , on reflection. I think it is a good idea to keep up the tradition of Jones being played by a much younger man.

...At least until it is declared 'offensive'.

Not a bad line up of Actors, one thing of course, is that the characters ( with one or two exceptions, such as Jones) were tailored to the original Actors who played them, so the new cast really are performing different characters, closer to impersonation.

I attended the recording of the first of the remakes - A Stripe for Frazer - back in March. Personally I thought the new cast were fantastic. They all nailed their parts without resorting to crude mimicry of the original actors.

As a nice touch, Gordon Peters - who played the policeman in the original version - was present at the recording and stated that he was well satisfied with the new version. Members of the DAAS were also present in some numbers and likewise declared their approval.

I've yet to hear a dissenting voice where these remakes are concerned but I'm sure there'll be some come the broadcasts...

Thought the three episodes were very well done, it looked as if they were made as authentically as possible, apart from being in colour and with an ad break of course.

What do others think?

Not seen them yet, but as I think audio now came to light of some of the original missing Dad's Army TV epsiodes - I think I would prefer that!

I thought they were very well done. It is an extremely difficult task to take on such a well-loved programme but all concerned did a fantastic job.

Yes, I agree. An excellent effort, well worth watching.

I noticed the 'Hooray' from the audience of "DA" fans, when Jones uttered his famous line...'They Don't like it up em!'.

Be surprised if BBC 2 don't screen them sometime soon.

There's audio of A Stripe for Frazer but nothing for the other two. There was an animation done for ASfF which might still be available for purchase from iTunes.
