Mark Steel - Who Do I Think I Am?

Post by Brock »

I've just got round to listening to this on iPlayer (from last Thursday) and all I can say is that it's one of the most brilliantly funny and moving programmes I've heard for a long time. You really couldn't make it up.

If you missed it the first time, it's being repeated tonight on Radio 4 at 9pm:

Fans of Mark Steel will also be pleased to know that the new series of Mark Steel's in Town started last Tuesday. This time, the towns he visits have all been chosen by listeners:

I heard the end of 'Mark Steel - Who Do I Think I Am' this time round and had lots of laughs.

Also enjoyed the latest two Mark Steel's in Town and found the little audience participation a good idea.
"Now listen you guys, I don't wish to alarm you but there's some pretty weird things going on out here..."

Glad you enjoyed it, but if you just heard the end, then you might not have got the whole picture. It's the way the story unfolds over the course of the hour that I think is fantastic - and he tells it very well. When I listened to it a second time I realized he deliberately sets up certain pointers near the beginning in order to give the payoff more impact, but I won't say any more in case I spoil it for other people. The best thing is that it's all true.

Yes, he's been doing that for a while now. I think it's a really great format that never seems to tire - at least until he runs out of towns!

I do like Mark Steel's radio stuff - "Who Do I Think I Am?" was good and I have listened to all the "In Towns" which I think is up to Series 8.
I can also recommend:
The Mark Steel Solution
The Mark Steel Revolution
The Mark Steel Lectures
All can be listened to from Mark Steel's website:
