Changes to Radio 2

Post by Private Frazer »

This was quite a few weeks ago now and here's a few I've noticed.
I'm getting used to the longer Jo Whiley/ Simon Mayo drive-time slot with a bit less chat and more new music, which pushes the following programmes to 8pm so I don't hear them any more.
I enjoy Sara Cox's weekday show at 10pm, but I really liked hearing the surely busy David Tennant sitting in for her on Wednesday night. Asking why London had been full of flying ants, and for suggestions for a speech, a duff song got cut and it was all great fun.
"Now listen you guys, I don't wish to alarm you but there's some pretty weird things going on out here..."

It's the other way round for me. I mainly listen after 8pm, and I used to dislike Jo Whiley's presentation style and choice of music, so I'm delighted that she's on when I don't hear her and I get to hear the specialist blues/jazz/folk/country programmes instead.

After hearing her latest Sounds Of the 80's' shows I'm really looking forward to Sara Cox's new 5pm programme starting in a fortnight.

also great to hear Tony Blackburn tonight playing songs (Supremes - Can't Hurry love, The Box Tops - The Letter etc.) that he played opening Radio 1 in 1967!; would you believe it?

I'd certainly believe it, because he presents Sounds of the Sixties every Saturday morning between 6 and 8am. (I guess it's a bit early for many people but I usually listen on BBC Sounds.)
